World's First Variable Compression Ratio Engine

I know there had been some recent discussion on the possible ability of the compression ratio to be altered by way of a tune and adjusting the valve timing, etc.
I thought this article might be of some interest to some that haven't seen it yet.

You may be missing what I'm missing, which is the knowledge to interpret exactly what they mean when they say, "8:1 for high performance driving and 14:1 for maximum efficiency".

The engine is turbocharged so the compression ration is lowered during periods of high boost (i.e. high power) operation to avoid pre-ignition. Not sure these descriptions would be correct for a NA engine, if that's what you're thinking.
