Here's a winner

Quote:
Indiana State Police say it's a story that illustrates exactly what not to do when released from jail.

Darren E. Roberts, 22, of Sullivan, who was released from the county jail in Sullivan after serving time for auto theft charges is now in the Putnam County Jail, less than 12 hours after his release.

He now faces three felonies and a pair of misdemeanor charges.

Roberts is charged with:

* Theft, a class D felony.

* Possession of stolen property, a class D felony.

* Resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, a class D felony.

* Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.

* Leaving the scene of a property damage crash, a class B misdemeanor.

Roberts allegedly stole a car, beer and led police on a high speed five-mile pursuit on Interstate 70 that ended shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, according to ISP Sgt. Richard W. Myers, Public Information Officer for the Putnamville Post.

Putnam County Sheriff's Department dispatched the description of a suspect and vehicle that had fled the BP gas station in Cloverdale after stealing beer about 2:40 a.m.

ISP trooper Charlie Boller spotted the vehicle going east on I-70 at the 47 mile marker and activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop.

"The vehicle, a red 2004 Ford Mustang, sped up to speeds of 105 mph on the interstate before exiting at the 51 mile marker east onto State Road 42. The pursuit ended on Cook Road after the vehicle spun out and the suspect surrendered without incident," Sgt. Myers said.

During the investigation it was revealed that Roberts had been released from the Sullivan County Jail at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday after having served time for auto theft charges.

Following his release in Sullivan County, Roberts allegedly stole the Mustang in Linton and drove it to the BP in Cloverdale where the stole the beer.

Robert G. Mason, Route 4, Linton, confirmed to the Linton City Police Department that his 2004 Mustang was stolen. He said the keys were left in the front seat of the vehicle.

After his arrest Roberts was transported to the Putnam County Jail in Greencastle where he is being held without bond.

The other question is why would you leave your keys on the front seat for that long?

+1. Most end up going back, its only a matter of time. They get used to the prison life since they have no responsibility in the pen. Most fear getting released.

Re: Here's a winner

My jeep has never, ever been locked up. And I have been known to leave the keys in the ignition, top down doors off, at a store or someplace similar.
