change the fuse box cigarette lighter to turn off

i have a GPS that plugs into the cigarette lighter adapter. in all my other cars, i turn the car off, the gps turns off. in the mustang, i turn the car off, the gps stays on
how can i change the fuse box so that the gps turns off when i turn the car off. i think this is possible, and wouldn't be too hard.

charles..you may have to help me on this one ...

Not much you can do...most fords do this, at least my ranger and most other vehicles I've been in from ford. just something about fords. It just keeps the cigarette lighters and other plug ins on, on how to fix it...you could run an alternate plug somewhere else in your car by plugging into something that cuts off when you cut your car off...I'll think on this for a little bit, do some experimenting and try to figure out what

People have hardwired radar detectors. I'm sure you can do they same. [http://fnsweet.com/garage/radar/index.shtml]

You could always buy another adater, and run a wire from the battery and turn it on and off with a switch.

charles ..what is your idea? ..ive never messed w/the fuse box of the mustang, but on my 240sx i had the best buy ppl wired my amp to a live connection so it was alwyas on , i switched it with the cigarette lighter (which turned off when the car turned off) and i just didn't use the cigarette adapter.

also another idea was someone said at autozone they have a adapter -> positive/negative cord. that might work if you wire it to the ignition.

no rush though, how about we do it when the temperature gets to the mid 60s
