There is only one manufacturer that makes DOT approved racing harnesses. Basically, because, your car has not been crash tested with the harnesses. And if you get in a wreck, the sheet metal or whatever you bolt them down to could break/bend/etc... I think the one that makes DOT approved harnesses is Schroth Rallye or something along those lines. But even they will tell you not to buy them unless you do Autox. That's why I didn't. If the manufacturer is telling you their product won't keep you safe in a collision... Eh. I tend to listen.

Id get it anyway, I rather die hitting a tree doing a 120 then in my sleep, or getting shot. At least I would be doing something i enjoy before the seat belt fails and i fly out the window.

They look sweet in a car though...just put them in my friend's project s10, blue suede seats with yellow harnesses, they just beg to be put on when you hop in. Most comfortable ride I've had in a while in those seats, I got to get some.
