Re: Birmingham Bankrupt

Holy crap, Birmingham's mayor is INSANE!

Quote:
Langford's solution to the need for more public transportation in Birmingham? Spend millions on retro-style trolleys. In June he shocked everyone - that is, everyone who didn't think it was a joke - by proposing to make a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. He once suggested building a canal from the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway so that cruise ships from the Gulf of Mexico could dock in Birmingham, some 250 miles inland. "What saves him," says Whitmire, "is, with the exception of Visionland, these things never materialize."
Quote:
But Langford never runs out of ideas. In July he made a big show of delivering his budget rescue plan, entering a meeting with a case labeled TOP SECRET and accompanied by machine-gun-toting police officers. The substance of the secret plan? Shuffle around some funds already committed to other projects. He's a fiscal liberal and a social conservative who has counseled parents to beat their kids more often, and once said, "Alabama needs a knee-high electric chair." Fortune would have asked him if he was joking, but Langford declined to grant an interview.

Re: Birmingham Bankrupt

We are recouping some of those costs. It was 40 million over too. Not 3.2 BILLION over.

The state of California is broke, haha. Arnold is going to ask the federal government for a $7 billion dollar loan.

I'm all for splitting Alabama from just south of Birmingham. North Alabama and South Alabama. Let the sorry ****s from Montgomery to the coast rot in their own worthlessness.

It's cool. the government just gave out $730 billion to clean up the banks/markets why not a few billion more. Maybe they can ask to borrow from the CEO's of the companies that went under, they only made on average a couple hundred million...each.

I'm guessing you need to live in the area to get that, haha.

Re: Birmingham Bankrupt

i believe a lot of areas are going to be going bankrupt. our economy is in shambles right now and there are a magnitude of issues that need to be resolved (cost of living, unemployment, etc).

our economy here is pretty good right now. obviously could be a lot better, but not near as bad as a lot of the country.
