Well I'm getting my tat on wednesday it's going to cost me $200. My question is if I like the job he does about how much should I tip him? I don't know for those that have had them done what do you think.

Tip the tat artist?

Never done that. You're paying him for the tat already.

Everyone I know has tipped there artist. I mean you tip the person that cuts your hair why not the person that is creating a piece of art-work for you?

I'm 18 so I can't buy beer, and it's going to cost $200.

i just got mine last wed for $100, i didn't tip him anything

at the place i got mine i think 20% of the cost goes to the artist as a tip, so its sorta like going out to eat w/ a party of 6 or more, its automatic.

He did some great work and when I was in the chair i got really queezy at first he stopped bought me a coke and just let me take my time. Real cool guy does fantastic work. He took a pic for his portfolio. If you g uys ever need a good tattoo artist near Downey, Norwalk that area call up Pewee at Distinctive Ink.

Well, all the tats I got came from the artist and owner of the shop, one woman shop. So, why tip?

How to take care of your tattoo:
1. Leave bandage on for at least one hour.
2. Wash tattoo gently with mild/anti-bacterial soap
3. Let tattoo air dry for a couple of minutes
4. Apply a thin coat of lubriderm or Curel lotion. (keep moist)
5. DO NOT (soak, scrub, bath, pool, spa, or beach) for 2 weeks
6. After shower pat dry
7. Avoid direct sunlight
8. DO NOT rebandage, scratch or use any ointments

Yea $200 was pretty good for what I got it all depends on the size amount of colors and detail in the tat.

I got a cross that starts off black on top and fades to red on the bottom and behind it wrapped around the top is barbed wire. Towards the bottom of the cross "Jesus" is written in script. "jesus" also starts off black and fades to red. If I can find someone with a digital camera I will post pics.

Well, I got my last tat in 1985 so I dunno the details, but I do remember using bacitracin (neosporin) to keep it moist, not lotion.

Mine's an American Bald Eagle screamng down to swoop.

Curel lotion is really good though keeps the tat moist but doesn't clog pores so it can scab and heel faster and better.

i got told lubriderm too, but i just used baby lotion cuz its good too.

My tat artist was telling me (Steve) that a while back, everybody used to use neosporin or something similar because that's what they thought was best. They've since realized that anything medicated treats the ink like an infection and some of it bleeds out while its healing. So the color should stay darker if you don't use anything medicated. One of the last things I got told about it was that a lot of people would try to tell me that neosporin is what I needed to use, but not to listen to them. So maybe that explains it.

Tipping is a form of Gratitude. In the world of service it goes a long way to getting special treatment. In a world of people who dont care about the quality of there service ( COME ON NOW WE ALL GET BAD SERVICE EVERYDAY) it is refreshing to find someone that does care and when I find them I want to let them know I appreciate it is by tipping. I am not saying tip everyone, but Waitresses, waiters, hair stylist, painter, tatoo artist , any artist commisioned to do art for you, Marina attendants, Full service stations attendants(OK THAT IS PROBABLY OVER MOST OF YOUR HEADS) Car detailers should be tipped

Tipping is only done if the service warrants it. In places that add a gratuity to the bill I refuse to pay it. I will tip, as much as I see fit, if service meets my expectations. Any place that makes a gratuity part of the bill can kiss my ***.

Not to mention no taxes on under the table tips. I'd rather Uncle Sam didn't take money from my waiter. Though there is a law out making them pay so much in taxes regardless of claimed tips.
