semi 1 - Mustang 0

Yeah, don't fight with a semi. Monday, which would be like the 14th of June, I got hit by a semi on the interstate doing 70 mph on my way home from work (8:43 am). So it had been raining all morning, quite hard, but not hard at the time of the accident. He wasn't going as fast as me, so I got in the fast lane to pass him. We entered a turn just as I started to pass him, and he came down into my lane, actually mostly into my lane. He got closer, and closer and closer, and then hit me. When he hit me, I slammed on my breaks, as I was quite close to in front of the rear tires, and didn't want to be caught under them. He actually sped up when he hit me. My car started turning under his truck, against my steering. The wet pavement kept my tires slidding instead of gripping, which would've allowed him to jump my car. My nose was actually in front of his wheels for a little bit. As my car slowed down, his semi drug up along the side of my car, and ultimately, the rear end of my car finally slide out and behind his rear tires, allowing only his metal step that's on the back of semi trailers to drag along my car. This evasive driving also left my car going sideways while still doing about 60-65 down the interstate. I held this sideways position for most of the turn and finally spun the wheel back the other way and let it go backwards when I wanted to go off the road into the median gravel. I decided this was best because then I wouldn't be on the interstate if another vehicle was coming and I wouldn't be in the actual median and need towing. I didn't get a plate, and he didn't stop. I would've had a plate had I not been trying not to die. So yeah, he got away, and my insurance gets to pay. I was just fine though, not one thing wrong with me other than a racing heart. The pics I attached basically point out the damage. The damage is basically limited to the rear Quarter panel, the door skin, door handle, side scoop, RIM :'(, front fender, and some minor scratches elsewhere. The damage estimates come to $4,200. The only good part is that my best friend is going to fix it, and I'm getting Saleen Side Scoops, and a GT Hood, and graphite ghost flames on the hood, fenders and a big one or two on each door. Also I was thinking of putting on a Roush body kit while it's in the shop. And yes, I would put on side exhaust with it. I'll keep you updated with what I decide to do.

it'll come back to me looking new, and I get to help out, so that'll be fun. I'm actually quite happy with how the Mustang performed after and during the accident. I actually felt quite safe inside the car. And nothing unneccesary popped out, like air bags, so I could actually see where I was going. It would've been much worse if they had blown. I really think screwing around in my car previous to the accident really helped me. Knowing how it would respond if I did something was very helpful. I really enjoy messing around on ice and snow, and I guess that's quite a bit like hydroplaning, just slower, and yeah, that was good practice. The not over-correcting helped a lot, and you learn that by messing around, and sliding around corners. But yeah, I'll try to keep you guys updated on how the repairs are coming. It'll probably start here in a little bit, maybe a week or so. I have to wait on the insurance company to come through, and then I have to wait on parts, and then I can start working with my friend who's starting his own shop. He says I get to do the ***** work... which is ok. I get some cool **** out of it. Saleen Side Scoops, Roush stuff, GT hood, flames, all that stuff. Plus, half my car gets repainted.... I think I'll only have 3 parts that won't get painted on my car. The driver side quarter panel, and the two parts that go from front window to back, with the top of my car also not being painted.... so not too bad. Oh,almost forgot, new fuel door too.

I tell people that all the time and they look at me like I'm stupid. My first time I went sideways I overcorrected three times and ended up on a curb. I've gone sideways hundreds of times since then and have never come really close to losing it.

I bet most of the people on here can, and could do that as often as they like with no problem... just cops.

It's the Explorer drivers that somehow manage to way way way overcorrect and roll their SUVs when their underinflated, overloaded tire pops that you have to worry about.

The main problem with SUV drivers is that most of them have never owned or even driven a truck before, and don't even realize that is what their SUV is in the first place.

I wish that truck driver that hit you had stopped, hard to figure what he was thinking, maybe he had a lot of points and another at fault accident would lose his job or his license, but that is dirty, hit and run is never nice, and he or his company should be paying for this damage, not you and your insurance company.

I know a guy that fell asleep and ran into the rear of a semi. Broke the semi's rear axle. Was in the hospital for 8 weeks and got multiple skin grafts and hundreds of stitches and such.

You are REALLY lucky.

trust me, if it were just getting fixed, I wouldn't... I see the accident as a way to finally get some stuff that I've really wanted for my car. I'm pretty optimistic, I think you have to be, or you'll go crazy in this world.
