U guys really need to check out RX7club and see. The rx7 is notorious for breaking down. Some guys go thru 3 engines in 1 year. (yes one year).

Some guys are dumbasses who don't take care of twin turbo cars properly.

It's not like Neons are any prize in the not-breaking-down category.

And it's not like SRT-4 engines don't get blown up as much as any. Hell. I've seen two or three videos of it happening. Too much boost = bad thing.

Challenges
There are some challenges in designing a rotary engine:
  • Typically, it is more difficult (but not impossible) to make a rotary engine meet U.S. emissions regulations.
  • The manufacturing costs can be higher, mostly because the number of these engines produced is not as high as the number of piston engines.
  • They typically consume more fuel than a piston engine because the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine is reduced by the long combustion-chamber shape and low compression ratio.

Advantages
There are some advantages to owning a rotary engine.
  • Badassedness.
  • Hot chicks.
  • More power than our cars.

I'd rather have 150HP than replace me engine every 4 months.

Weird. Because all the RX-7s I saw on Autotrader had upwards of 80,000miles on the engines. And a lot had 120,000+. Weird. Those guys must drive a lot. In four months.

Or maybe Steve is just a dumbass!

... Haha! Just kidding Steve-o!

Grandma has never even -seen- an RX-7. RX-7s are reserved for true enthusiasts. Unlike mustangs, which are driven by the elderly at least 70% of the time.

The thing I have learned about Steve in all my years of knowing him here and on 3.8... Is that he likes to put down any car he does not currently own. This includes an RX-7. If he could have bought one, he'd tout that ***** like it was the second coming of Jesus Christ. But since he is stuck with an SRT-4, well... You know the rest!

Nobody has ever replaced their RX-7 engine in four months unless through stupidity or bad tuning.

Me too. But after my mustang, I'd definitely pick up a 93+ Rex.

I don't know. How do you feel about your convertible top flapping in the wind when it's parked? And I hope you don't have any big hills in your area...has a hard time making 40mph.

I see a lot more mustangs broke down than RX-7s.

In fact, there was one on the highway today. I stopped and was like: Need help? And she was like: No I'm okay. And I'm like thinking: What the ****, chick. You're on the mall of the 10 freeway and your car is broke down. But clearly, she wasn't a true mustang enthusiast. So I just drove away.
