Music Industry Gives up

FOXNews.com - Music Industry to End Mass Lawsuits Against File-Sharers - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News

I like this quote:

Quote:
Critics say the legal offensive ultimately did little to stem the tide of illegally downloaded music. And it created a public-relations disaster for the industry, whose lawsuits targeted, among others, several single mothers, a dead person and a 13-year-old girl.
Wow, took some real brain power to come up with that one.

prime example of what happens when a company ignores an evolving market.

Re: Music Industry Gives up

i was watching AOTS last night about this. Says that instead of RIAA going after individual users by subpoena'ing their ISP's, they now have put the pressure on the ISP's to keep control of their users, either by throttling their bandwidth or kicking them altogether, if not, the ISP themselves get the pressure.

Methinks ****s gonna hit the fan soon with net neutrality and now this. Can you say Google as an ISP?

Re: Music Industry Gives up

you can thank Larz from Metallica for starting the whole thing it only takes one turd like that to start a whole movement no matter how stupid it is. It's just funny it took them this long to realize that they were shooting themselves in the foot

not to mention they were just behind the times and lashing out whichever way they could.

They failed to take advantage of the digital medium. Had something like Napster came out directly from the recording companies and had a payscale just like iTunes ($.99 a song) nobody today would even really think twice about free/pirated mp3's or any other software. Its just that most of us got so accustomed to it, there isnt any other way.

so far they have only gone after those that allow uploading of their content. Dont share your download file for others to upload from, and youll be fine. Of course, that negates the idea behind P2P file sharing, but whatever.
