Big Brakes Paid for themselfs last night

I was driving home from work, and was going about 65 on the highway, and some mini-van pulls out right in front of me, and I do mean RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. So I slam on the brakes, they lock up. Start pouring smoke from the tires, slides me sideways a few inches from going down into a ditch when I stoped.....by the time the smoke cleared, I backed up, and went after the van, and it was gone. No where to be found. But now I have flat spots on my tires How long does tires usually last once they have those flat spots on them? But if it wasn't for those brakes my car would be gone right now. So if your thinking about upgrading your brakes DO IT!!!!!

Glad your ok. First off.

But you don't need big expensive brakes to lock up your tires.
Stock brakes can lock up just fine with the best of them.
I just had to say that.

If the flat spots are that bad, you can take them to most wheel shops and they can shave them for you. Which would clear up any vibration issues.

Locking up the brakes tells you that you need bigger...tires. Good thing your were quick to react.

it would be nice if you were able to turn off anti lock brakes. Also, traction control should be off by default

ABS.

I have one vehicle with ABS, it's a minivan. When I bought it the ABS never kicked in, even then trying to make it happen. Changed the pads when the OEMs wore out, put in some flavor of copper impregnated fancy pads. ABS cycles now. Never actually had them kick on unless I was testing them, guess I learned a long time ago how to threshold brake.

Well, if you can get on the brakes and back off real quick...you have the same effect.
