Best Blu-Ray player?

I've decided to make the jump to Blu-Ray. I don't really want to, because I'm still bitter about HD-DVD not winning the format war. So who makes the best player? Cost is an issue, I don't really want to spend more than I have to. Throw out some recommendations, and reasons you like/dislike certain players.

How is that one better than this one? Samsung - Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player with 1080p Output - BD-P1500

Bunt, I'm going to buy a PS3 for my game room. Just a player for the living room, though.

Ps3 is still one of the best although it is a power hog compared to a stand alone player. Updates over the internet and you can play Gran Tourismo in beautiful 1080. By far the best looking game I have seen.

Re: Best Blu-Ray player?

Sony has one that runs about $400. I cant remember the model. Will get back to you later with that. But it is by far the best ive seen yet, simple to operate, good remote range.. The only flaw ive found yet is the price.

Re: Best Blu-Ray player?

I have a Samsung. I don't know witch one it is but it was one of the first ones that samsung made and I had to pay a grand for it. I love it and it works great. I just had to update it for the first time last month. It was easy to do. Had to download the update and burn it to a CDR and play it. That was it. I have heard that Sony created Blu-ray, so you don't have to update a sony player but that's just what I heard

play GRiD then. Even with my wimpy 8800GTX it blows GT5rologue away. We were at Fry's playing GRiD on a 360 display they had with a 46" Sony HD-LCD and the racing wheel and pedals, and ill be honest, first time i really wanted to get a console/hdtv, looked stunning. Until i downloaded it myself. My buddy is downloading it, i cant wait to see what it does with his twin 280GTX in SLi setup on his big screen (60" Mitsu plasma 1080p).

Re: Best Blu-Ray player?

Im with you mark, one of the reasons blueray is still so high is the its a proprietary format (yes owned by sony) HD-DVD was not only a better format, but it had less DRM and it was an open format licensed just like DVD is.

I predict that blue ray will still be hovering $200 christmas 09

Re: Best Blu-Ray player?

I recommend you research carefully. From what I have seen the sub $200 players are not BD-Live compatible. Most of them are the older BD 1 or BD 1.1 players. Which Blu-Rays are coming out are the BD-Live (2.0). Those won't play on 1 or 1.1 players.

Ones that can connect to the internet for firmware updates are the best bet. That is part of the reason the PS3 was a good choice for a Blu-Ray player for so long. It is essentially "future proof" in the fact it can recieve a firmware update.
