possible end to the "ricer" craze?

i just got back from cruising like i always do, and i think im noticing a trend. there are less and less obnoxious riceboys nowadays. i live in cali, so if theres gonna be a trend, its starting here. i think tonight i only rolled up on 3 totally crappy imports, 1 was a primered hatch with the "racing" wire mesh cutouts on the rear bumper with the metal plate around it, you know what im talking about. the other was a Eclipse GS, black, with a grey body kit, and another GS eclipse that i have seen many times before but never had a chance to come close to it, its the "Replica" green eclipse from F&F, minus the decals. it was sponsored by our local radio station and actually has some mods to back up the high rise wing and eye blinding paint. too bad they modded a GS or i might actually have asked the guy if he knows anything at all about cars.

well anyways, i think its cause more and more of the generation of the "pepboys and autozone" performance kids grow up, get better jobs and more money, they can afford the things they wanted to when their mom handed them the keys to her grocery getter civic lx. i see more and more of my age with things like GT stangs, SRT4's, Evos/STi's, and other non rice related performance cars. i mean, i went from a tbird to a eclipse gst. my freind who was a honda boy had a 90 talon awd, then a 300zx. and the only reason he has a honda again is the 300zx was about to die.

oh and things like stickers and neon lights are kinda fading. i remember when i used to see 20 cars a night with the whole interior glowing from neon tubes. its like after i took them off the tbird to make her stock i never saw neon interoirs again, well until tonight but it was a chick and they were pink neons in a black civic with a pink little stripe graphic on the side, looked clean and she was hot so it was ok in my book. but still. ill still rock the undercars though, just cause nobody ever puts in the time and work to actually do them, so im the only one around here who has them. and i only use them when its parked in a spot to where everyone can see that i have more than neons(ie the hood is up.......). oh and altezzas....well i think ill be taking mine off cause that craze is over here, only people with altezzas are 4dr hondas and 4dr teg's. even though mine arent really altezzas(altezzas only refer to ones with chrome housings) i dont really like mine anymore. well see.

oh and i think the pep boys ricer aisle is getting smaller, cause it now has the "Chrome Chevy SB performance" parts in it too, like the chrome air cleaner, or the chrome plug wire holders. its on the same aisle now, and theres less useless crap in the rice aisle too now. they actually sell things i need like intake tubing couplers, wire butt connectors, black wire loom(for that hidden stock look) and wire ties. yes no more can i go into that aisle for ****s and giggles.

oh and autozone? well the rice section is now in 3 devided sections now, i guess because having all the kiddies in one aisle at a time things got heated when they started throwing down words like "vtec", "NoS" and "Bolt ons" and fights broke out on whose cars will break the 16 second barrier first. so now 1 section is the neon ligts and other lighting, the other is intakes and such, and another is the pedals, switches, mesh kits, and stickers.

well this is just my view on things, dont be suprised when the ricer populus around you starts to fall off. of course theres always gonna be those kiddies whos motto are "live by the vtec, die by the vtec". to those the rest of us will always say "see ya in 2 lights" and blast off into the night.

come down south a little, college guys in CSUN have ton of retarded ricers out here, I saw this one parked outside of my work. I **** you not the guy put the front spoiler on with ZIP TIES. I tried really hard to find a camera phone to take a picture so I could show you guys, but unfortunately the guy left before I got ahold of one.

I saw coming over this idiot driving a Chevy Corvette, looked brand new with a HUGE oversized wing. It was all bright yellow too, looked horrible. Bad taste is out there.

Welcome to Last Summer in the East Coast. Thats been dieing over here since last year.
Pretty much all the riceboys saved up their cash and learned what the right way of modding up a car is. And in my book thats cool at least their learning. Plus all the **** talking that gets thrown at them. I know Ive told a few rice boys how hideous their ride is. Nada but the truth

ehhh, it depends where youre at, because its still alive up here, it seems that sometiems its getting worse, like someone i know has a 93ish Geo Metro, he has an intake and exhaust on it, and claims he can beat LS1 powered vettes

around here, theres a lot of cars, like a 99 Kia, just has rims, a wing, and a muffler, and thats it

Oh no doubt around here there still the same but compared to like 2 years ago its died down well maybe around here. We still have our high rised wing neons/saturns and whatever else. I think some people just get it and others just dont get a damn thing. One day thats all we can we hope.

BTW id love the idea of the unstoppable geo hahahaha me and my friends were thinking of actually doing a swap in a geo wondering what we can fit its like **** its like as f*ck any bigger engine would make it fly...or weighed down cause a real motor prolly weighs more then the car itself hahahaha

After the third fast and the furious comes out it will be back.

But it will never end. What we call rice is cool to import owners.
What we think is cool, is rice to import owners.

It really doesnt matter anyway. They dont mod their car to impress you guys anyway.

you know after making this thread about not seeing many crap ricers anymore, i see 2 very riced out pieces of junk. i work in a resturant on the 3rd floor of our mall, and from the window i can see the whole parking lot. first car was a primered grey 98ish ford escort, with some outrageous kit, dual rice exhaust, had some sort of black paint on the side that almost made it look like armor plating but gayer. then of course a wing, but the ends were yellow(totally different from the body), with gunmetal rims with red powdercoated(prolly just spraypaint) lip. then you could see inside, the whole interior was blue and yellow. it had a rollcage. pathetic. the other was a flat orange civic with this bodykit that looked like a snow plow, it was angled forward and stuck out 3 feet from the headlights. the kit was white, with white rims. why would you only paint the kit white? why not paint the whole car?

so yeah maybe i just stopped paying attention to them. or maybe my incessant *** kickings are making them have to resort to getting actual fast cars.

and seriously, i like the v6 stangers, but around here, they are domestic ricers. some guy tried to tell my freinds crx hed get whooped. he had a red mustang. i looked at him and was like "you have a six, and by the sounds of it, its stock. you seriously dont have a chance". he honestly looked at me and said "umm no dude its a GT, see it has dual exhaust", so i pulled my freinds ebrake and slowed down enough to see the rear. flat, no cutouts, but it had dual exhaust, and sounded bad. then pulled next to them "umm then if its a GT how come you have a V6 flat rear bumper with no cutouts?" then he tried telling me it was a special edition. we never raced but seriously, we need to get these v6ers in here to see the light. i hate being the only one of my freinds who knows the potential of the six.

Our ricers are smart.

Senior I knew last year had every bolt on you could do to his DOHC Vetec, 30shot N20, had a full kit for it w/Z3 fenders and wouldn't put it on because he didn't have it painted yet.

I had so much respect for him. He would always say, "I don't care if it has 700HP, it's still a Civic."

That's one instance.

Alot are more into the engine swaps than the body kits.

a kid yesterday tried to explain to me that he could take my v6 with his honda prelude...

As soon as I mentioned going to the strip, he says "dude no...that's not real racing...keep it on the streets".

Silly ricers, streets are for kids... =P

keep it on the street?

wow.

a strip's time is the real deal here, actual numbers don't lie and it's the legal way to do it. Smack him upside the head and yell NO very loud.

There are more ricers than ever before now. This past weekend I went to the strip and there were more ricers than any other cars. It was alright though; more wins for me!

not to rain on your parade njstang, but preludes run mid 15's stock(the ones with the h22 vtec motor). judging by your sig, ill give ya 16 seconds even if youre good at launching. and if he knows how to drive, itll be over in 2nd gear.

but his "keep it on the streets" remark was just gay. its fun and all to spank someone, but if you want a real test of you and your cars ability to race in a straight line, the track is your freind. its a love hate thing, i love to go, but i hate getting ready to run, its the only time i feel like im under pressure, and i hate that, but usually it makes me drive better.

It wasn't the performance Prelude...It was a '95 Prelude S. That trim is rated at 135whp. Obviously I would own him in a 1/4 because of the fact I have a lot more torque and horsepower.

I know enough about cars to know what I'm up against. His comment about racing on the streets only goes to show he probably would've done something stupid in order to win, to which I would have no problem to taking the next turn outta there. I know my car isn't the fastest out there, but if someone wants to race me straight up I'll give them the time of day at the track, and the track only. And if I lose, I always give my props to the winner.

yeah, wanna hear something though, when comparing a import to a domestic, hp does not always equal out. for instance, i have about 225 crank hp, so around 190whp. a 99+ GT has what, 270 crank and 240whp. and ive taken lots of them. of course, on the street and from a roll.

but anyways, if you 2 did race, it would be close. if he has a couple mods and can drive id put money on him. but your stang will get more chicks than his honduh.

Yea both cars (his and mine) are both stock...Yea I know horsepower doesn't really anty up, so thats why I included the torque #'s. Both cars weigh about the same (his being maybe 20-30 lbs lighter). He continued to say if he bought a turbo he'd own me. I followed up that comment with a "why don't you buy me a blower while your at it?" The ricer craze is starting to wear down in some areas, but will still continue in those areas that aren't as financially "up there" because 'ricer' parts cost close to nothing compared to performance parts.

I don't know, maybe he wasn't thinking and just figured since I had a six-banger that I'd be a push-over at the track. Oh wait...did I say the track? Oh thats right...I forgot that 'street racing' is the best way to prove your speed. When will I ever learn...lol

Hopefully I can get some bolt-ons in the near future once I can nail a job (being unemployed sucks). I already have a "shopping list" of all the parts and model #'s that I want to install. Atleast I have time to research since I can't purchase lol

over here in south jersey - we're pretty opposite you guys in CA.. where your trends end.. the trends you used to have begin over here.. The ricers are EVERYWHERE's.. I wanna cry whenever I hear one rev up at a light.. I just rev back instead..

Why would someone want a poppy high pitched/buzzy sounding car to sound even worse? ... imports need to learn the goodness of american v8's haha

I have seen less rice in the mid-west lately. I bought a Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe auto for commuting (nice comfy leather, climate control and such). I started looking at a Honda web site and even those guys make fun of riced out cars. One guy asked if he should put a type R badge on his Civic and the resounding response was NO, because it ain't a real type R!.

Know what's fun, now that the 'Stang is not a daily driver I'm gonna go nuts with it.
