I disagree. If that's the case, then why are the fox Mustangs so popular with gear heads? They only came with 225 hp stock...

You can't compare the top dog camaro to the middle of the road mustang. In order to use the SS in your comparison, then you must compare it with the GT500...top dog vs top dog. Otherwise, you need to bring in the Z28 to compare with the GT.

Re: We Are Scared!

^ that is a very good point. I always think of the GT500 as almost a different car altogether. If I had to choose over the '10 camaro ss and the '10 GT500 I guess I choose the GT500. Like I said it's all about hp/tq for me. so I don't know what I want

That is just idiotic and you know it. The GT500 isn't even built by Ford ironically. It's a wanna-be supercar that needs a ridiculous weight reduction. That is like saying you have to compare a Honda NSX vs a Bugatti Veyron just because they're both one anothers biggest car. You've gotta compare cars in similar price ranges and markets.

Look at the price difference. Also, lets look at how many GT500's are made and how many Camaro SS's will be made. There is no Z28 and I'm not sure why you guys keep thinking there is. GM is finally wising up and not giving 18 different choices for the same car.

Also, Brent, I can sorta see your point about stock performance doesn't matter but unless we're all made of money (I know I'm not) I'd like a good starting point to base my modifications off of. If we wanna take that route all performance guys should just buy old Geo 3 Cylinders or new Smart Cars.

I'm not really on Chevy's side, but I'm a Camaro Owner, a previous mustang owner and I don't really dislike either one. It seems like the people who are a bit crazy is the mustang owners for the most part. One thing for sure is, I won't buy a car with less power and handling just to try to modify it to keep up with a faster car in the same price range, that is just stupid.

That's taking things to extremes. We are talking about Mustangs and Camaros. Gear heads want something with history that has performance (in the domestic area) and they are going to look at the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger and base their decision off that.

It is the proper comparison though. And who makes the GT500 if ford doesn't? Don't say shelby either, because all the GT500 has is a shelby badge.

The GT500 is not a super car wanna be. It's a mustang with a blower. It is no different than the 03/04 cobras...only it has the 5.4L instead of the 4.6L.

You were comparing an 02 SS to an 08 GT. That is not a fair comparison as the SS in 02 was the top dog camaro. The top dog mustang in 2008 is the GT500.

If you have to use the 02 SS as your comparison, then either choose the 03 cobra to compare it against (but it too must be a wanna be supercar not made by ford) or the 01 Cobra. You can't compare a top dog model of one brand with a mid level model of another brand...you have to do an apples to apples comparison.

Re: We Are Scared!

I guess you don't see what I'm saying.

Someone is looking to buy a car. They wouldn't say "I want either a GT500 or a Camaro SS." One is double the price of the other, and in much more limited Numbers. The Camaro SS is the Mustang GT's competition whether it helps your argument or not. GM did not make the Camaro SS to compete with the SuperSnake, GT500 or any other $60k+ car. They made it to be its base V8 model (Just like the GT is to the Mustang). If the Camaro comes out with a new special edition camaro that is around 60,000 bucks then we can compare those 2 cars.

Besides, GM doesn't need to make another level of camaro. The Base Corvette, CTS-V, Corvette Z06, and Corvette ZR1 are already in that selling position. That was GM's problem, they'd have too many cars overlapping one another.

Umm I'm confused on why you chose an 08 GT? Did the 2003/2004 Cobra disappear or something? That is more inline with the SS

Re: We Are Scared!

For **** sakes, I'm talking about the 2010 Camaro SS. The point of this whole debate was the 2010 camaro and how you all think it'll fail.

Then some try to say its competing against a 60,000 car.

Sorry, too many people on different pages. I just remember reading someone mention the 2002 SS.

The whole point of this debate is Camaro vs Mustang. It's pretty much covered every subject in relation to it

Re: We Are Scared!

Show me a 2010 SS that sells for less than a GT500 and we'll talk.

Hell, they wanted a 10k markup for a V6 camaro last I looked. That definitely puts the V6 camaro in Mustang GT territory. I highly doubt you'll be able to buy a V6 camaro for less than 20k anytime soon.

Re: We Are Scared!

gt500s are not 50k cars, they are low-mid 40s if you dont add on everything and every option to them.

when i am buying a car i dont buy it to drive it 100% like it is and never change it, I look at where its at, where it can go and what issues i may run into, and what its going to cost me.

there are FAR to many ways to compare the mustang to the camaro, its not about any one factor for everyone, maybe to some but not to all, anyone that can not see that judging the cars in different ways shows one on top vs the other and visa verse is close minded.

Re: We Are Scared!

Rocket 442, I'm not sure why you are saying that a camaro SS is comparable to the mustang GT. The SS was not the base V8 platform.

Take 2001:

Ford ~ 3.8L (base), 4.6L 2v(GT), 4.6L 4v (cobra)

GM ~ 3.8L (base), 5.7L OHV (z28), 5.7L LS1 (SS)

The z28 is really the comparison to the GT, not the SS.
I will say that the z28 did out perform the GT, that is true, but a comparison between a GT and an SS is not fair.

The 01 N/A cobra is the equivalent to the 01 SS.

Each car made by each company was also similar in price.

For the 4th ****ing time. I'm talking about 2010 here.

And YES, the SS is the Base V8 Platform FOR THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND AND TEN (Thats 2010). There is no Z28 in 2010. There is a LS (V6), LT (V6), and SS (V8). Thats it. So yes, it is comparable to the GT for christ sakes.

2010 Mustang GT Pricing: $30,095
2010 Camaro SS Pricing: $30,995
pretty damn close if you ask me.

BTW, 2010 GT starts at 27,995.

2010 Camaro starts at 30,995.

Sorry, the Mustang is still going to outsell in the end because the majority of people out there don't give a crap about the horsepower difference...just want the pony car. And the Mustang still has the challenger and camaro beat.
