So my friend wants to race me...

He's been after me for like a year to race him, and I keep telling him to meet me at the track and we'll go, but he refuses to spend money to do it. So...he wants me to meet him on the street and do it. My car = 2002 Mustang V6 auto. Him = 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0LV8 auto. His car supposedly has 250 hp and weighs around 3800 lbs. My question is, if I do go meet him somewhere this weekend to make him shutup, what are my chances of winning?

You have to remember, his is a front wheel drive, so I'd have traction over him from the launch, plus he floors the car everywhere he goes to begin with, so it's prolly not in the best of shape. I think it'd be a real close race, that's why I wanna take it to the track

I've got a K&N filter...lol. Yeh, mine's stock. Does vinyl give me anymore hp? lol. I have a little bit of that. I sound like a ricer listing those as mods, so yes, bone stock.

Yeh I've got money, but don't feel like spending it on my car right now. Been trying to do exhaust for a while, but just haven't done it yet.

cause i have an 03' v6 vert.... with an automatic transmission.. and i am in the process of ordering a ton of stuff. that would help you too. like a shift kit; gt dual exhaust take offs; an CAI with pulleys.. thats not too much and would help you a ton

if you really save up like 700 to 900 buy a torque converter for you automatic and that will also help alot

but man like gt take offs is like a 200 dollar project now days.. just buy the take offs for like 150 weld it in for rlike 50 to 80 and there you go. tons more hp

The reason exhaust is taking so long is because I'm wanting side exhaust and I'm trying to find the best way to do it without restricting any power. As far as the shift kit, I've thought about it, just trying to pay for school and my apt at the same time lol. O , and no job right now

Also, I'm looking for a new block to drop in. Trying to decide if I want to drop in a new engine or fix up the v6 I have, and dropping in a bigger engine is sounding so much better right now lol.

Thinking about dropping in a 6.8 v10 after I rebuild it for my car....just dunno yet. And yes, I know that would require some major work, but that's what I do for fun on the side lol

all I can say is good God.... you're jumping to almost double the cylinders... probably doubling the torque, and doubling the horsepower... good God. You're talking so many different things just so your car doesn't split right in half

And yes I'm going to beef up the suspension, rear end, new transmission, reenforce the frame, everything. Not gonna do a half-*** job. I'm just gonna tell the guy that if he doesn't wanna go on the track then too bad. That's the only way I can be sure of an even start, exact et, etc...

Dimension-wise, the v10 will fit, it's more a matter of how much the computer and such will cost. The engine would probably be around 3-4 g, about 1500 for trans, around 1000 for suspension, 500 for rear end, etc...All a matter of me talking myself into spending the money. Might just have to slowly buy stuff so I don't feel so bad about it. I mean, I could go out right now and buy everything, but don't wanna spend that much money at one time.

SHould be a close race i seen those stupid cars around. Guess if you have the launch your good. BTW good luck on ever starting that V10 i sure as hell would love to see that. BTW results on the street are very differ to the track. I personally like the street but remember to pick a spot that isnt pron to anything bad to happen

make him go to the track if he wants to run you bad enough he will, street racing to find out who is faster is stupid.... with out numbers you will never know... he could beat you by 2 cars and still run as slower time than you.

The differ is that the street and the track dont compare some people just dont want the numbers they just wanna know what level of car genre they can beat. The track takes to much effort to get the best times. I enjoy both honestly but on the street theres no excuses. At the track many of things can factor. But thats just me now

I have driven both cars and I would say the aurora. they are pretty quick for and olds. I think a 24V taurus would be close with a v6 mustang and an aurora with a load more horse and torque would beat you. If he beats on his car that just means the CPU is used to that and will give him better driveability as he is beating on it. If you take yours easy and then flogg it once, it won't be used to that type of driving. All and all I think he has you beat. Just stand on the brake and give her some gas. That will give you the best launch track or street with your auto.

lowflyn, some guy did a 6.8Lv10 swap into a crown vic and he had a hell of a time with the electronics. He also turned the intake manifold around so it would fit. I think he had to put a sensor on the wheel to measure his speed. It was amazing when he was done but it was alot more work than probably worth it.
FYI...V10 is good for 320 horse and 410 lb.ft.torque

What et would I expect out of my car right now? And would exhaust really take that much time off it?

Exhaust by itself is not that much of an increase. Maybe 5-10 horse max. Headers are a different story. I am not sure on an et for you, though.

I was thinking like somewhere around 16...and the aurora will run like a 16.2 or so. It would be a really close race. But he refuses to pay money to race me, so whatever lol

falcon, that is why I said headers. I don't research as much go fast parts for the v6 as for the GT.

lowflyn, check out michael.koner's? car. It is a v6 with 425 RWHP i believe. It can be done and with the money it sounds like you have, it would be much cooler and better money spent. I'm sure you seen his links on here. search his car a little if you didn't.

Yeh..a v6 can have 400+ hp...a v10 can have 600-700 with no problem...plus the torque curve would be so much better out of a v10 lol. When I finish, my stang will be my toy car and I'll have something else to drive everyday. Probably something like a powerstroke or some other big diesel

You sure are stuck to this idea. Go for it. We all root you on. However, it is a hell of an undertaking compared to doing up the v6. You could stick in a built 460 and make 1000 horse....or maybe a cadillac 500...or maybe a jet engine. Just ideas. I, however, do not have more money than I know what to do with so I just suggested what makes sense to me...and probably most other people. I hope you do stuff a 6.8L in it. I would be very envious.

It's not that I have a buncha money just laying around to spend on this, I just love working on cars and I'm sick of getting stomped and looked down on by almost every car out there. So I'm wanting to build something that I wouldn't race all the time..but when I want to...it will decimate all lol. I actually just finished paying off my car after almost 2 years of paying on it...so I have this basically leftover money each month so I figure might as well save it up and do something with it

I think you should check out a few swaps out there right now. In one of my hot rod's they did an article aobut the X2C Motorsports mustang. It was a turbo car. It started life as a V6 as well. Congratulations on paying the car off. It is always a good feeling when they get paid off. you represent about .1% of people who own their car free and clear.
