lol though your babble is well thought out.

id either go with the 1st gen(90-94) eclipse/talon AWD,

or

a 89-92 fox 5.0 cause they have forged bottom end.

both cars should be 3-4 grand so you will have shibbang left over to do some mods.

with the american muscle as you stated, early fox body 5.0 with 5 spd. if its not limited to american there are lots of imports with that price tag that are lighter and faster. for 4500 you might find a 240 with an sr20. g20 with the same. there are many options, definately talon/eclipse awd with the good stuff is more resonable, slightly more common then a 240sx with a turbo sr20. by the way if you cant tell im in love with silvias... sorry guys id sell the stang instantly to own a 240sx silvia converted with a sr20 red or black top turbo and all the wonderful lil gizmos the japanese dont give us in the american versions. although right now im in the process of possibly selling it to split the payments on a 2004 cobra with my father.

'87-'92 IROC-Z or Z28 with the 5.7L TPI motor. Not the fastest cars from the factory, but they're one of the best looking Camaro body styles ever. The sbc 350 has the largest aftermarkets and makes a pretty good platform for building a real performance motor.

Gee, when someone says American musclecar I sure don't think of anything newer than maybe 1974. I don't think of anything with EFI, automatics or power windows/seats/locks.

you could be running 12s extremely easily with a notchback fox body. They are way light and have a great aftermarket.

I say fox. You can easliy pick up a clean unmolested 5.0 for around 2 grand and spend the rest on a HCI
I pretty much did that minus that I went wit a used Procharger kit

I got my 89 5.0 for 700
if you can find one for that price in equally as good a shape with 3300 or so left over to put into it, you'd have one very nice car

whatever you do... DON'T go for a classic if you only wanna spend $4500. I thought my Mach was just going to be some minor body and engine work... maybe a little interior. HA! A year and a half and about $10,000 later... its almost done. Take redrum's advice... get a fox body. They're relatively inexpensive to buy... easy to find parts for... and they're easy to make fast

ok guys almost none of the cars you listed were muscle cars. they were all pony cars. if u want a "muscle car" and only have a about 4.5k to spend i would prolly go with an (all these cars are unrestored but in running condition) early chevelle, 1968-72 cutlass with either the 350 rocket or the 400 or 455 cu engine, a try and find a charger but there kinda pricy with a 383 in it (earlier chargers are much less expansive then later ones) my all time fav is prolly the 1969 cutlass with the 350 rocket b/c it had 322 hp, weighed less then most others, and could come with a 4.11 posi out back

now im not bashing on stangs i LOVE my car but its no muscle car, even the old 5.0s arnt muscle car. its all about the cubic inches and stangs and camaros didnt have then.

Thank you archer. Most people think muscle car is anything with power. It's not, it is a specific category and the Mustang doesn't fall into that category. See my user name? See my .sig? I got two ponycars, but no muscle cars.

My friend has one. Freaking awesome. Sounds awesome. If only they didn't weight so much.

If you can find one for $4,500 that is not a complete piece and doesn't need a restoration, let me know.

the only mustang i would ever consider a muscle car would be a 1969 boss with a 429 in it. thats about it , i guess a few othere might have been but not many. a 302 and 289s and 281s just doesnt cut it when were talkin muscle cars. you need at least 350+ i dont even consider a 350 much of a muscle car. if your thinking of buying one of these cars rember how much you will give up. 1) dont try and stop it 2)dont come around any corner going over 25 3) forget a/c in many 4) forget FM and most stereo (our 1969 cutlass had 2 speakers in terrible positioning) but at the end of the day when those back 2 barrels open up its all worth it.

You forgot that the Boss 429 is in the FE class that includes the same big block engines as the 390 and 428 Cobra Jet.

(Side note, when they first release the 390 is the 1967, it had a problem with overheating, it was hell to work on, but there was no stopping that 400 ft.-lbs. of torque when the needle climbs past 2,000 RPMs.)

That's the fun part. Your going 100MPH and that corner is comming up real fast.

oops i always slam the 429 and the 428 together for some reason. and i never did like the 390 much but i dont know much about them. and just the massive torque these cars put down was just amazing i loved the torque our 69 cutlass put down. there was no flooring it from a stop you couldnt go any where.

Nothing like 100+ in a true muscle car..the road just literally dissapears b/c your front whelels are coming off the ground lol. At least they came off the ground in my friend's charger. The road looks about 4 inches wide lol
