Re: New President Obama

for every person that voted for obama because he was black, i bet there was one that didn't vote for him soley because he was black. the point is moot.

besides, a very outstanding percentage of african americans vote democrat anyways (I'm talking like 90% or something ridiculous like that), so its not like the race card was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Re: New President Obama

Obama Popular vote: 66,862,039
McCain Popular vote: 58,319,442

The only point I was making is that the number of (possible) black voters is greater than the margin of victory (at least in the popular vote, we all know you don't have to win that anyways So it entirely possible that if Obama were a white guy, the election might have turned out differently. Thats all I'm saying, coulda woulda shoulda, whatever, but it can't be discounted that there might have been 4.5 million black voters that changed their vote, or 9 million that just didn't bother showing up, had obama been a white man. Its a statistical possibility that can never been proven or disproven. Its like chevy vs. ford there are people on either side that think they are right and aren't going to change their mind without hard evidence that will never exist.

(as an aside, if black voters weren't out shouting to the world they only voted for him because he was black then most people probably wouldn't even care enough to think about it. Even the people trying to do "good" by shouting about it being a great stride for equality are actually just making race a factor when it shouldn't be. I personally think its disrespectful and a sign of how far we still have to go when people make his election a big deal "because he's black", if he was elected and it wasn't made into a huge spectacle of black equality i'd feel like we were better off. It just seems to me that the more people try to make it about equality, the more it really shows how unequal it really is. In a perfect world everyone would be like me and go "the president is black? ok?" because it wouldn't be amazing and sensational, it would be expected and normal.)

There race card expired long time ago the prez of the united states is black and theyll still pull that ol race card tell you how they where slaves and what not. Tell me whos discriminated against. You can have an all black college all white schools where outlawed back in the 60s. If a white guy kills a black man he goes to prison. If a black guy kills a white man he goes to the NAACP and gets off with his race card.I could fill pages of examples of how blacks or minoritys period think they should have special rights and privledges. So dont even try to say the race card had nothing to do with it. Obama pulled that card plenty of times right from the start. I dont care what color his is hes a politician thats worse than anything.

This = truth. If people would realize the racism would finally cease to exist when we quit distinguishing between white, black, hispanic, asian, etc, and realize we're all just people. Hailing this as some big achievement because it's the first "black" president does nothing but perpetuate the racism.

I can see that point but I also see how it is a big deal for black people in this country.

I agree that yesterday was a very historic day indeed. America inaugurated it's first Socialist leader. In the 50's and 60's we were sending men and women over seas to prevent the spread of their ideas. Well we failed, and now we are voting for them. It's sad the measures people go to when times are bad.

I will not support him the least bit. I am not the type to support someone just because a bunch of other idiots voted for him and now I'm stuck with him. Would you support Hitler if he were your President?

He can take his health care, welfare, stimulus packages, bailouts, government controlled education, government controlled banks... Hell, government controlled everything... and stick them straight up his black and red ***. All I want is my ****in' freedom.

Re: New President Obama

Well I'm right there with you with all these dumbass bailouts and how the whole driving force behind capitalism is that poor businesses fail. It shouldn't matter that they have been there for years, adapt or die, that is capitalism. On the other hand, all this bailout crap kinda started before yesterday I can accept that you don't like his policy, but its not all brand new stuff. I guess technically I'm trying to say that the good ol' gov't was doing some socialistic BS before he got his grubby hands in it. (Not that he won't make it worse)

Just reading the local newspaper...and I am wondering if a black president will have any affect on the culture of crime that plagues the black community? In my city, there have been almost 2 armed robberies a day in 2009 and almost 100 shootings in 2008. Those are obsurd statistics for a city of 100k.

Re: New President Obama

I personally dont like McCain or Obama.....but in my eyes McCain is the lesser of the two "evils". And the only reason that is is because of McCain serving for our country he has the discipline and structure to run America, not to say that Obama doesn't tho. My biggest things against Obama is that he is pro choice, like to change his views, and doesn't/used to not believe in the right to bear arms. The NRA (national rifle association) aired a message on the radio quoting one of Obama's speeches on why we should not be able to bear arms. In my book if someone breaks into my house and my wife and kids are or are not there I would shoot em. And yet in one his speeches when he was campaigning Obama said he did believe in the right to bear arms.... if he can change his views just like that whats to say that he doesn't change his views on other subjects? But in the end this is just my two cents and everyone is entitled to there own opinion.

I honestly can't understand why someone would vote for a Republican or Democrat. Yet they do.

Or why people compare Obama to Hitler.

I feel you should take a test to vote. If you cant pass the test you cant vote. The way you pass the test is the way you vote. ie you pass more liberal or conservative, thats the way you vote.

Well that's what I meant. No such thing as a true conservative when it comes to someone that can get the nomination on the Republican party ticket.

Read my post again. I was not comparing Obama to Hitler. I was pointing out how people like to blindly play follow the leader. Hitler is just the perfect example of what can happen because of it.

Hell the same thing happened with Bush Jr. People followed Hitler because he promised to get germany out of their post war rut and used Jews as a scapegoat for all their problems. All you have to do is take some Hitler campaign posters, swap out jew for terrorist, put a couple of 9/11s on it and you'd have a golden 2004 election poster. When people are scared they will do anything to feel safe, be it Bush preaching about saving us from thuggish terrists, or Obama promising to change what a ****hole america has become and save us from ourselves.

Re: New President Obama

nobody can change this nation overnight.

however, what obama is planning to do, and what im thinking is a viable solution is to invest in the infrastructure of the united states. in times of recession, according to keynessian economics, is to increase government spending (and conserve in times of inflation - thanks bush). kinda like roosevelt's solution to the great depression. we need to rebrand america. we need to ween ourself off of oil and become a country that produces something rather than consume and manage. there is no tangible production in america anymore - and i think obama is on the right track with fixing education, our science program, and industries like alternative power.

if we have no foundation, our consumption will slow and slow until we are no longer the "best customers" for the rest of the world. if we keep pumping money to fix problems that aren't the root of it all - the lack of a foundation - we will fast track to hyper inflation.

so im guess what im trying to say is that obama is not a socialist. he is not some holy savior of america either. he is a good candidate to revitalize america's backbone, and from there we will build again. spend now, grow our country from the ground up, then conserve later... when there is something to conserve.

Re: New President Obama

It's also a good sign to see Democrats are not completely happy with some of Obama's policies. Those Democrats being some of the most liberal in the country.
