New President Obama

We now have a new leader and chief. I didn't vote for him, but now he is my President so I will support him, as I have everyone before him. Do you think he can really fix everything like he says he will?

He'll do better than McCain would have imo. I didn't vote for him either though.

Re: New President Obama

I have a feeling that he took too big of a bite. and it might be too much. and saying that he can't make a change, but that their are so many that think that all the worlds problems will be fixed in the first week.

I agree there are too many people that worships the ground he walks on. I'm not expecting anything amazing. Just for things to start improving after this year is over.

I hope you are right. I just have not seen any plan that he has to do the things he wants to do

Re: New President Obama

All his speeches have just been fluff. I wouldn't imagine too much amazing change based on fluff. However, no matter what he does is going to seem like a failure since it seems like his supporters think he is going to cure cancer, cure aids, bring peace to the world, make everyone wealthy, and adopt a puppy by about 3 this afternoon.

The only thing that matters about today is...My calendar came from american muscle and Louis, your memory came in today.

Other than that, today is really a non-event.

There are some out there that actually care about the people. They don't hold very high office though

I managed to watch about 10 minutes of the pre-inauguration party before some reporter started mumbling about 9/11. Then I threw up a little in my mouth and changed the channel.

Re: New President Obama

i thought it was one hell of a historical moment.

i voted for him and i think he will do one hell of a job. will he do everything he said he would? hell no. will he fix america/economy/healthcare/foreign policy/etc? he might fix a few things, break some others, but it won't be instant... but im excited to see what he can do, and im sure he will do a lot of good for this country.

there is a lot on his shoulders - he promised a lot, has a lot of people that placed their hope in him, he is the first black president, and he is in a pretty bad situation economically and diplomatically. all eyes are on him and he knows it. but so far so good - he has shown that he is a very good leader, is very charismatic, very ambitious, and has rallied not only a lot of US citizens, but just by being elected, has had a positive impact on America's image in the world spotlight.

Man, today is history. Whether you like the guy or not, it's American history and you are alive to see it happen. I don't understand how some people can't care.

As hard as some people try to make it into a not so big of a deal, it is. It's a huge deal.

It's only a huge deal to those that care...to the rest of us, it is just the beginning of a error...I mean era.

Re: New President Obama

It may be a 'huge deal'... but really... it's all in all, another day.

It may be 'American history'... but weren't all the other inaugurations 'history' too? Or is it different in his case?

I don't get it. He's just another guy, who happened to win the presidency. Does that mean I'm supposed to hoot and holler cause he's taking office? No, I've never done that, and never will.

Now, he needs to step up, and do what he 'said' he's going to do. Then we'll see.

Woo-hoo.

of course its all just speculation and what you hear in the media, but he has been very busy gathering teams and strategies to tackle some big issues TODAY. i dont know what kind of experience you have in project management, but to just go in and start tackling world issues within the first few days of starting a new job requires a ton of leadership skills.

Wiarumas, you should get a job writing speeches for presidential hopefuls. That was a pretty damn good non-answer, lol.

It WAS a historic day. Not because the first black man was sworn into the office of Presidency perse, but because the 44th President of the United States was sworn into office.

My secretary at the office being one of those. She blatantly admitted to voting for him simply because he was black. Said she would have voted for any black man running for the office based off of color.

Sadly...I believe this is the platform he won on. He didn't win because of his stance on issues but simply because of his race.

Repbulicans have been winning because they stick their religious views into politics for a long long time. You have a problem with black people voting for Obama because he is black and I have a problem with people voting for Mike Huckabee in the South because he ran around praising baby Jesus every chance he got. Black people aren't the first people to vote for the wrong reason!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama didn't win because black people voted for him because he is black. If this was the case, Jesse Jackson would have been the Democratic Nominee in 1988 and he would have ended up winning the Presidency. Or how about Al Sharpton? He ran in 2004. Why isn't he the President now?

Obama won because he got Republicans to vote for him. Independents to vote for him. Democrats to vote for him. He won because of his platform, not because of the color of his skin. Period.

Obama won because his platform isn't 100 years old and he adapted to a changing America. He didn't run around yelling Maverick every damn chance you put him in front of a TV or yell Drill Baby Drill.

Re: New President Obama

An historic day indeed. I wish him the best of luck, but my personal opinion is that he is a Rock Star with little experience in politics. But hey, maybe that is what we need in a president! Best wishes to President Barak Obama and his family. He is my president and I will respect him and hope that he does what is best for this country.

You can spout that as the truth all you want but its really just your speculation. Yes he did sway repubs, indys, dems, etc to vote for him that is legitimate, but with people openly saying they voted for him only based on race (and many more people probably not saying it) there is going to be a buffer zone of votes that he won everywhere that he didn't really "earn". Maybe it was offset by white racists voting against him because he's black, we'll never know, but to act like the issue doesn't exist is just wrong. Now, whether it was a big enough issue to change the results of the election, we'll also never know.

Also jesse jackson and al sharpton wouldn't have won if every black person in the country voted for them because they are some of the biggest reverse racists around and every white person probably voted against them, and we are still the majority. I don't think for a minute al sharpton couldn't be president if he wasn't as confrontational about racism as he is, obama took the same black vote al sharpton got, but also sweet talked white people his whole campaign.

I never once said it didn't happen. I don't act like it doesn't exist. I have said over and over people vote for people for the dumbest reasons. People voted for Clinton cause she was a women.

However, Obama won by 10 million votes. It simply isn't the case that he won because of that reason. To say that those 10 million more people who voted for Obama did so because he was black is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: New President Obama

USA QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

Population, 2006 estimate 299,398,484
Black persons, percent, 2006 (a) 12.8%

38,323,006 black people in america

Persons under 18 years old, percent, 2006 24.6%

28,895,546 voting age african americans in the US (give or take, I know this isn't super accurate)

now look, I like obama (as much as i can like any politician, which is to say i don't hate them) and my rational side says that every black person in the US didn't vote for obama because he is black, or even vote for obama, or even vote at all. All I'm saying is that with a 10m margin of victory and ~30m possible "i voted for him because he be black like me" votes, you can't say that its impossible he won because of it. Its super, extremely, highly unlikely, but if every african american in the US voted for him just because he was black, it easily would account for his margin of victory. I agree with you, I don't think that is why he won, I think he won because he has a silver tongue compared to mccain who has centrum silver and won over just about anybody that isn't happy with the current state of the US, but its still a possiblility that you can never disprove because you'll never know peoples real reasoning for the way they voted.

That's what I was responding too. You also said that Sharpton and Jackson could never win it because they couldn't pull the white vote.

My point was that Obama did win on issues because he did not win simply because of his race.

Sure it's entirely possible that every single one of those blacks could have voted for him just cause he was black. It isn't very likely and on top of that those 28 million do not equal the 69 million that ended up voting for him.

He won on issues, not his race.
