New Territory

Today me and some friends were comparing numbers on the new '05s, the GT is a little more than a second slower in the quarter mile than the new 6.0 LS2 Corvette. I don't know the numbers from the past GTs and Corvettes but that seems to be real impressive.

Maybe the Cobra will give the Corvette some competition in fall of '05.

maybe if they had about 100 more hp.

remember the corvette isnt necessarily a drag car, its big advantage is suspension and top end.

Don't count on it because they won't be out until late 06 at the earliest. The cobra won't be around until 07 model....no SVT at all until then. No lightning until ?????? since the ligntning engineers were pulled off to work on the cobra. Once the 07 hits with the 5.4L....NA is looking like 500hp and should cause the vettes to start itching again, depending on the vette updates by then. But, late 05, not gonna happen unfortunately.

It will have 100 more hp...projected at 500 hp at the moment as they are putting the same engine as the Ford GT in it. Oh, and they may offer a WOT super cooler option that runs off the AC to boost you another 50 hp for a 15 second burst or so. That will certainly cause some big guns to take a second look. Just imagine the possibilities if it is a friendly to mods as the current cobras.

Production is said to start around fall of '05...that's the '06 year model right?

And they are keeping the IRS. That should be an option.

Well, the fact that they pulled the lightning engineers off their projects may allow them to bump the date up a year. The last I had heard was 2007 though, but that was before they canceled the L. At that point, the L was expected to be 2006 like you are talking, so who knows, maybe they moved the cobra up into that slot instead.
