Finally went to the track.

Finally took my 2012 PP to the track after owning the car for almost 3 years. It's been over 4 years since I've been to the track and I was a little rusty running on street tires. I was only able to make 2 passes because they were extremely slow getting cars through. First pass was the best with a 14.09 @ 100 mph. I have a manual trans and launched at around 1500 rpm. Bogged a bit off the line and spun halfway through 2nd. I went through the 1/4 in 3rd right at 7000 rpm lol. Definitely not used to that. Mods are Airraid CAI, BBK offroad x-pipe, Dynomax Ultraflo catback, UPR shifter bracket and Bama 93R tune. I got the 1st pass on video, so I will upload that to you tube tonight and also post a pic if my time slip. It felt good to get back in the saddle, but disappointed with my driving abilities. I'm sure I can run high 13's once I figure out launch rpm. Launched around 2000 rpm on the 2nd pass and had to peddle 1st gear. Spun through 2nd and had to lift due to the car getting sideways. Ran a 14.6x @ 100 mph. Still had a lot of fun and am even more impressed with my V6.

Hey,

Practice makes perfect so don't get so down! We all have hit or miss days and the best thing I can reccommend is keep at it. Keep going back. I've seen well seasoned old heads that have driven pro stock for 15+ years fall on their faces at the track. We all have bad days and I think you did very well for being off the horse for so long! Don't let anyone in here give you guff either!

Thanks, Alex. If I could have made a couple more passes, I'm sure my time would have gotten better. I'm gonna go again as soon as I can. Just hope I don't get addicted again lol. The 93R tune did very well imo. My car was screaming and felt fairly fast. I'm thinking 13.7-13.9 is well within reach. Not too shabby for a little V6 with minimal mods. As I said, I'm very impressed with this V6. I think it's funny when people ask why I got a V6 instead of a GT. There are many reasons, but it's rather hilarious to snatch 2nd gear and see them grab for something to hold onto out of the corner of my eye. They don't expect for the car to burn off 2nd gear lol. In the end, I'm very happy with my car and it suits me just fine. :)

If or when you go again

Drop your rear tires down to about 28 PSI.
Increase front tires to 45PSI.
DO NOT drive through the water.( Street tires are awful when wet)

I'm guessing you have a 3.31 ratio rear. If so you just probably need to go to second just soon after getting started. It will help with the dreaded 2nd. gear spin.

Try this and you should hit the mid to low 13's

I wanted to run my car as it is every day so I left tire pressure as is and let the car get up to temp. For some reason, the track now has barricades around the water box. Everyone has no choice but to drive through it. I was rather upset about that cause not only does it affect my run but others as well. I have no clue why they did that.

Well, You sure did not do bad.

Your times were very good for a street car that you did not adjust anything at all. The wet tires killed you for a good 1/2 second due to not hooking up at all.

I did a 13.3 but used the tricks I just wrote about with my Automatic. My Pirelli 18 inch tires seemed to stick really good. I don't really drag race anymore but got talked into running just the one time.

I have to be careful because I would get addicted to it and I can't afford it.

I had a '92 coupe for 11 years that I drag raced as often as possible. I couldn't afford to race it like I wanted, so I let it go and had a bike for awhile. There are way too many drivers on the road now that don't look out for bikes, so I got my '12. I've purposely stayed away from the track, but the itch was too much to keep from scratching any longer lol. I might go back again next week.
