My car was stolen last night and they found her this morning. My insurance doesn't cover this because I have basic insurance and I still have 10 payments left.

What do you guys think I should do?

Lmao!!!! We love our cars oh so much
Yes we do. It'd be no different than takin my wife or kid. I'd be like, if its money you want, I don't have any, but what I do have is a very particular set of skills that make me a nightmare for someone like you. Then I'd hunt their a** down. I'd prolly put a sign in my yard too that said, u better have enjoyed it. Give your heart to god cause your a** belongs to me. Lol

I'm kind of confused tho, you said your insurance doesn't cover it cuz you have basic insurance but your still making payments for the car? I thought when your financing and making payments you MUST have full coverage because its technically not your car till its paid and he title is signed, than you can do what you wish with the insurance

Yea I bought it from a buy here pay here and they accepted basic and me being the cheap ass that I am opted for that. I have a guy coming to look at it tomorrow and he said it looked fixable. Part of me wants to just let it get repoed and part of me wants to fix it ;(

How much cash you got into it so far?

I'd imagine if you let it get repoed, they might bring you to court for all the damage I'm not exactly sure how that works tho

Basic insurance in Florida is just PIP personal injury protection. I'm going to call them and see if there is annnnnnything they can do but I'm about 98% sure I know what's they are going to say. I'm also going to see how much it will cost to make some changes in the future

If basic insurance doesn't cover theft then what does it cover?

OP, sorry to hear of your loss...

Your only option is to part the car out and you'll have to eat the rest.
He cannot legally part it out, or sell it, because he does not own it--until the remaining loan balance of $2300 is paid it belongs to the lien holder (presumably BH/PH dealer). And that is the saddest part, he still owes the $2300 regardless of what path is followed, and repairs will likely cost far more than that.

That said he might be able to part it out on the QT and use the money to make the loan payments. Or sell it as is, likely at a loss as it is not worth $2300, and make the seller aware they will have to work with the dealer to get the title, by paying off the loan with whatever he can sell it for plus some cash.

============================================
FWIW "Florida's minimum coverage is $10,000 personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 property damage liability (PDL)"--from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website.

It will be cheaper 2 just get a new one look at my pic and I have a parts car and after u get the parts u stell have no frame and u will have 2 cut out the floorboard and get it strate u wood be better off by parting it out if u do I wood like 2 know I need sum more parts

I know it's hard but you might have to part her out. What would she want to have happen? Lol

There's no fixing that properly or economically. Yes I know anything can be prepared, but it would cost so much. When you inspect it you'll find stress cracks all over. I'm surprised you were able to finance it without full coverage. I would never run flat base coverage. I pay less than 2$/ month for theft coverage.

It just occurred to me, how did they get by the PATS?

Unless the PATS is disabled in the tune our cars will not run without a programmed key, and there is no amount of jimmying the ignition lock or hot wiring that can change that.

That is why theft insurance is relatively cheap for PATS equipped cars...

I cried a little seeing this. I'd honestly part it out with our telling the finance company and than pay it off and bite the loss. When you get the title just forget about it.

+1 I feel your pain. My first car was a 93 cobra and it was stolen and striped and I had no theft because I didnt have the money for it having just dropped 8500 on the car. You should be able to sell as a donor car for at least 2500 which will pay off your loan. But dont feel too bad, for every end there is a new begining. Finance a cobra this time. ;)

Well I didn't want to mention the part where I left my key in the door. I was ironically avoiding driving drunk but I left the key in the door lock.

So yes they used my key. Most of this was my own stupidity. Jokes may now be made whenever you're ready!

Anyway I'm getting the car repaired out of pocket. Looking at $700 to just straighten out and reinforce the frame. Then I'm buying the fender, door, and a pillar cover from a part out.

Then ill repaint it in a few months.

Well that explains how they got by the PATS. Look on the bright side, insurance would not have paid anyway...
