I autocross 3 to 4 a year. Mainly vir. Im upgrading the brakes to my. 2011 gt auto coupe and wanted to know if i needed anything esle. The kit is strait off american muscle.com. so it includes caliper/pads/front/rear/rotors/brake lines. Any other good ideals when changing the system. I can only think of one and that is new brake fuild and later upgrading the pads. Any advise is welcome. Just trying to get a heads up on what a shop might try to hit me up for.
Have u looked at other brands other than brembos, i have a 13 track pack and i will soon be swapping my brembos for 6 piston stoptech on all four corners.
Honestly the brembo upgrade is pretty expensive for what you get. There are other kits out there for less money that will yield better results. Honestly a good pad upgrade will help quite a bit, like some hawk hps pads.
I would look into dot4 brake fluid too. Higher boiling point than dot 3
I disagree, if you have driven a brembo car you can easily tell the difference. The stock brembos with hawk pads and fluid really perform good, i track the car quite a bit and dont have any complains and running with other base 5.0 you can easily out preform them even if they got aftermarket pads and fluid and rotors.
They are worth the $$ but if you are spending the money just get something even better like stoptech 6 piston for just a little more.
The most complement i get on my car is for the red brembos.

I see them at the track and even guys with full bolt on finish behind me just because of the braking performance on my car is so much superior. They have pad, fluid and rotors and that still doesnt do the trick for a whole day of track driving.
Ive seen alot of brake kits..mostly @2 grand not interested. I also have svt 18' wheels for clearance purposes. My other mods during this time will also be the boss quad ehaust with gt500 mufflers. So price is a big thing. I like doing the best band for the buck kinda of thing. I guess that why i keep buying mustangs. I might forgo the brake kit for a full suspenion and pad upgrade. The car has 48000 miles on it. 95% highway. Hawk pads seems to be the pads to go with from manu forums. Ill have to research all the differant prices and see what i can get the most out of. Car is stock eng wise for now.
If youre tracking, I highly recommend switching to DOT4. Heard good things about Carbotech pads, but no experience yet. The techs there seem pretty knowledgable, though. Hurry up, spring!
The stoptech kit is much better than the FRPP brembo kit which brembo will not offer outside of Ford. Its much better than the stock OEM non-brembo kit but these hit up pretty quick and if you want to run a round longer than 10 minutes you'll see major brake fad. But you can eliminate those issues with DOT4 fluid, better brake pads, stainless lines and most importantly brake ducts. You'll actually see more benefit from a brake duct kit than anything else.
Do most after market rotors not rust like the stock basic GT rotors do?
They like instant rust when it rains. Which looks bad. I don't really have any issues braking currenty with my driving habits but I'd easily upgrade them without much thought it they don't rust as fast or at all.

This last summer I upgraded my rotors, pads, fluid, and stainless lines. Noticed a big difference in braking. But I have also seen were break ducts make a big difference too.
Back on topic: The OP says he autocrosses 3-4 times a year. This isn't running Laguna Seca on a supercharged skateboard. The factory 4-pot Brembos with quality pads offer good pedal feel and more than enough braking power for autocross use. That good feel and feedback is way more important than ultimate braking power or Le Mans-level fade resistance there.
I have the factory brembos with close to 21k miles on my pads and ran 10 laps in a raid course. Even though I had to drive down to my tires because they are worn out so I couldn't go that fast I still had no issues with brakes.
The stock brembos pads/fluid still need upgrading if your running at a pretty decent pace. The brembos are really nice since they have better feel and have a 4 piston design but with that being said the brembo still comes with a street type pad and dot 3 fluid which won't last at all in a racing environment. So either way stock 2 pistons or brembos your still going to upgrade pads and fluid in the long run..

Yea it seemed to me something was a little fishy. He never had a mustang until recently, had thousands of questions, then all of a sudden had all of the answers after his numerous races
The brembos make changing the pads exponentially easier you don't even need I remove the calipers. That's is prolly one of the biggest reason I got them becuase I switch out my pads the day before I go to the track and only takes like 10 min. Once you have the car jacked up. As far as pads go I would reccomend since you'll be in the novice run group and your just learning I would reccomend hawk hp+ pads with motul rbf 600 or are super blue fluid you can get away with only doing the front pads. Later on to can move to hawk DTC 60's you can beat thee snot out of them.
Awesome I'm going to have to look into those. I'm actually very surprised with the overall life of these brakes. Think I may go ahead and paint everything when I change them out to.

You should make sure your wheels will fit with the Brembos. I'm looking for new wheels now and there is a difference between brembo and non-brembo wheels so be sure you have the clearance for the calipers.
Brakes Brakes Brakes, need to upgrade my rear breaks, was thinking about bear but I don't want non matching brakes. Maybe just change them out on track events. Not really sure what the best rear option is, but I really don't want to pay 2K+ if I don't have to. I changed my fluid, but I didn't change the lines, I'll have to see how it works out.
I got a wilwood kit it works pretty good and it wasnt that expensive
