I have caliper covers on, but they won't clear my new wheels so I have to paint the caliper instead. Just didn't know opinions on how they look with the calipers painted.
The funny part is most people think the covers are a bit....ricey. Which is sad, because I too like the covers better then painted parts. But as others have said, painting looks fine if done right. I recommend the G2 caliper paint kit, because its a two part epoxy that is very tough and resists flaking and fading.
That's what I'm saying, and I had quarter inch spacers to clear the covers but the thread on the studs were too small to be completely safe.. I just replaced all the studs because they were getting kinda rough. That's kinda another reason why I have to paint them instead. I plan on posting pictures of the job. Before and after kinda deal.
Bought a duplicolor caliper painting kit from O'reilys.
Kit comes with brake cleaner, a brush, caliper paint, and paint stir stick. The paint brush is rather cheap but it works.
i started by cleaning the calipers and man they were duty. Took a while to get them truly clean but it's worth it.
Didn't really tape off much at all for one reason, you use a brush instead of spray painting it. It actually come out really good and only done 2 coats with a little touch up and some spots.
final thoughts. I loved the look, the paint brush really shoulda been a little better but for 20 dollars, you can't beat it. They also didn't include enough brake cleaner to do all 4, but luckily I had some spare cans laying around.

Took me roughly an hour to get everything done on that one caliper, but it would take around 2 1/2 or 3 to do all. I advise you to do atleast 2 thick coats 20 minutes apart but no longer. My calipers were seriously dirty because I had covers on them, so definitely the majority of the time was spent cleaning the caliper and around them really really good.
I wouldn't use the spray paint kit. It would get a lot more coverage quicker but honestly, it would look so messy considering it's hard to tape off brake parts. The paint brush is so accurate and I wouldn't use anything else.
I used the G2 kit. Awesome some. Cures hard as a rock and looks great. I also painted my rotor hats/edges while I was at it because they looked like crap. Before anyone flames the pics, I purposely masked the rotors to get "some" overspray on the working surface so the pads would scrape of the leftovers and make a perfect line...which they have. I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
I'm going to try paint in mine. I tried the caps ad they didn't fit. Not enough room between the rim and caliper.
