I personally don't have them (I've got 3.31s) but everyone I've talked to that does have no regrets putting them in. I guess the only drawback would be you would be a bit higher in the rpm range while driving on the highway as opposed to the gears you have now.
No need to worry about regrets. I'm sure you'll love the 3.73's. They're MUCH better than the factory 2.73's by a long shot. You'll feel a huge gain in acceleration. Trust me when I say you're in for a treat!
I have 3.55 gears and to me it seems like the best of both world. It's a world of difference from 2.73 to 3.55, so that could be an option for you if you want to back out of 3.73. You will be able to tell the difference in your RPMs, but nothing that will make you nervous.
I got quoted 650$ gears and tax included, and for an extra 100$ he is going to install my SR lowering springs. Its a very reputable shop that only works on mustangs called mustang direct.

When you think about a complete gear kit including gear oil that's shipped to you, that's $300+. So you are getting the install for right around $300. That's not to bad of a price
Canadian, I probably could have had it done cheaper but I went with a mustang specialist who does gears very often. My brother is a mechanic with 30 years experience and said he'd do it no problem but I know he doesn't do gears all that often, and my stang is my baby, so I just bit the bullet.

The only reason I wouldn't go with 3.73's is if you do the majority of your driving on the highway and care about gas mileage. From my experience in the past you won't notice much of a drop in city MPG it will just require more shifting. But from a performance aspect, can't go wrong with a good set of gears.
I personally will be doing 3.55's when the time comes since I do a lot of highway driving. However, I see most people getting worried about high RPM, etc as a cop-out with going to 3.73 gears. I think it's because we get acclimated with turning 1.5k RPMS's at 80mph, when most other cars are at 3k for the same speed, so when we read about the "huge jump" to 2700 rpm everyone gets nervous.
My opinion is Ford wanted a marketing ploy for the V6 to help with the last sales push of our gen cars. The result was they ended up castrating the car with these horrid 2.73 gears.
I hear ya bro! I actually don't find 2700 rpm's high but that's just me. If I'm at 2700 rpm's with my 3:73 gears doing 80 mph then 3:55's I'm guessing be 2400 rpm's give or take. 300 rpm's is not going to make a difference. I had debated this very thing when I had 2:73 gears. Should I go with 3:55 or 3:73 gears? Researched it for months and in the end so GLAD I went with my 3:73 gears.
Hindsight, I personally would of gone with 4:10 gears had I known back then what I know now. I don't track race, semi daily driver and all highway miles. We have 6 gears in our cars, its not like the 04 mustangs that have 4 gears. Big difference. A guy in my local mustang club has an 04 Gt with 4:10 gears and 4 speed automatic.
I was quoted $300 by a very reputable shop here in OKC. Plan on getting it done within' the next couple months. So after paying $255 for gears and install kit I think this will be a good bang for buck mod. I'm going 3.73 btw.
I was paying attention this morning while driving on the highway, at 80mph i'm exactly at 2k rpms. Flat roads, on a stock v6, except for a cat back exhaust. How can some people get 1.5k rpms at 80mph?
The shorter tires I had previously made it the equivalent of running a 3.75 (yes, I know that doesn't exist) but I loved it!!
I like the mpg and traction of the 3.55s, and yes, there is a difference
my car has 51k miles i have driven 49k miles with 4:10 gears installed and havent had a single regret.. the only regret you might have with 3:73's is that you didnt get 4:10's instead lol
From what I hear its two heat cycles. I also heard that highway should b avoided during these cycles but where my car is I have no choice but to do some highway (30km) when I get home I will definitely follow whatever break in period and method they tell me. They are also well aware that I'm a little distance from the shop.

What constitutes a heat cycle, ie: how long, fast, etc. I want to get the 3.55 gears, but the "good" shop I hear about is all the way over in Mass. I live in CT so I would have a long drive (1 hour) with mandatory highway.
The type off driving would be more stop and go city driving, I'm not sure of the longevity of the cycle but when I pick up my car tomorrow I should be able to give you more specifics. They only do mustangs and that was a big reason why I went to this place.

What was your cost out the door total? Did you buy the whole kit from American muscle what addons did you pay for such as rebuild kit and how long did it take the shop to install them? ?

K, So remember everything is in Canadian $$$ so it might be a little higher than U.S prices.

Dropped off car Thursday night and picked up Friday night. I also had them install my SR lowering springs which was 125$.

I stopped by my Ford dealer today. I was quoted 3 hours labor for the whole job. Labor here is $105 / hour. American Muscle has the gears (3.73) on sale. I love my 14 auto
convertible, but the transmission always hunting for the next highest gear is frustrating!
It would be nice to feel the power of the engine!
