+1 I've heard countless catted, non catted x and h vids with many different ABs and LTS or Shorty's and have come the same conclusion. I've done shorties and ABs but I'm 99.9% sure my stock mid is staying put.

GT 500 stripes, painted side mirror covers, GT 500 spoiler, 2010 GT premium wheels with Pirelli P-zero tires, upper and lower front billet grille, Barton shifter bracket, Airaid Cold air intake, S.R lowering springs, J&M adjustable panhard bar, Boss 302 strut tower brace, 3.73 ford racing gears, Bama tuned, BBK shorty headers, Roush Axel backs.
60-70 bucks spent at a shop would give you the needed mental peace, and desired sound. If you like the sound of your x pipe but don't need the added rasp of your current setup, I suggest you slap your stock cats back on.
Just for the heck of experimentation: try putting your stock mufflers back on and see how you like their sound with long tuned and o/r x.
Doesn't matter how you ask it, 3.7/off road x/ raspy. Put your stockers back on and see if you like it better. Any "aftermarket" AB for the 3.7 will have some degree of rasp with a off road x/Lt set up. Its just the nature of the beast.

Otherwise go back to that shop of yours you've been to almost 5 times now and have them swap out that x-pipe, it should only take less than an hour. AB's aren't really going to tame the rasp and even for a quality set will run you $300+
As has already been stated, the rasp is from your X pipe mostly, the sound is created at that point and with free-flowing aftermarket exhaust, it will just go right out.
The stock ABs have more baffling so it could cut down some of it, but to really eliminate the rasp, you have to head for the source.
The 3.7L is just a naturally raspy engine, hence why the stock exhaust has so much constriction and baffling in the mufflers.
