So I'm finally thinking about throwing the Mods on my 2014 Shelby and I'm going to start with a CAI and tune but which is better getting a BAMA tuner and tune it myself or take it to a shop and have someone tune it?

It's better to actually take it to somebody but if you plan on modding and changing things, Bama could most certainly be the way to go. There are a ton of email tuners. Bama, aed, lund, vmp, and steeda. Bama is who I have.

What's the build list? Other than cai and tune?

Let me clarify a little. A REPUTABLE tuner would be better. However, you can't beat the guys at Bama. There tunes are safe. But having a 14, things like warranty come into play. There's always debate about whether tuning will void warranty. It most certainly can but some dealerships are okay with it. Before you do anything, be sure to talk to them first. If you aren't worried about warranty, the guys from Bama will get you taken care of.

Hello,

Steeda makes great tunes & we have some great tuners in house ... for example, here is James:

James G.
Lead Tuner and Calibrator

James has over 15 years of experience professionally tuning Fords - mainly the Mustang, Focus, Fusion and F-series. He was previously employed by SCT and trained many of their top tuners! James takes pride in providing quality, conservative tunes that you will feel confident in loading onto your daily driver. Reliability while providing tremendous gains are at the core of our tuning values.

Let me know if I can help assist you with any questions you may have or if I can set you up with pricing for our Mustang Power Pack: Steeda Shelby GT500 Mustang Power Pack (13-14) GT500 | Free Shipping!

Or just the Tune & CAI: Steeda 2013-14 GT500 Mustang Power Package - Made in USA 555-3949 | Free Shipping!

Best Regards,

TJ

Hey Honk - Good question and there's a slew of great tuners and dyno shops out there but for the best bang for the buck I would shoot for a K&N Cold Air Intake and Bama X4 Tuner - Combined they'll likely save you a few hundred dollars in comparison to having it dyno tuned and that cash can be used towards tires..Well maybe just one. Check out some of the reviews below and drop me a line if you have any questions.

If you're going to have some serious work done, a custom tune is the " best " way to go.
Is there a shop near you that can tune ?
.
For just a CAI, you may find the cost of a custom tune, a little steep.
( tuner's time + hand held + dyno time )
.
I don't run canned tunes, but lots of people have good results with them.
............................Good luck with your decision !!

It's a tough decision sometimes. Lol. I need a new heat exchanger and a 1 piece drive shaft.

dyno tunes are always better, because one, the tuner spends hands on tuning with your vehicle, and 2, kinda the same as one, it's your vehicle...

No vehicle is a like, i'm sorry but they are not. A tuner that can spend some time tuning it to your liking will be the best.

I see you're in Mississippi, i would look around and search for reputable tuners near you. Alot tuners like vmp, go on road trips and you can meet up with them there on their mobile dyno's.

From what I can gather, the pound difference in rotation mass makes a huge difference. That'd equal instantly more to the wheels. And also what I gather is they don't like high rates of speed being 2 piece. The 1 pieces are rated for much more horses.

It all depends on the shop. One major reason that not everyone gets a dyno tune is there is no shop around. Where I live, there's no shop close and I have no clue who has the closest shop. I sure don't want just anybody messing with my car. I for one Will eventually get a dyno tune after I complete my build list. It's much easier at this point to add a part and call Bama. They have always done me right. I do need some data logging tho. I think I have pretty much figured out the process but I need them to help me make sure I do it right.

Rev Auto, the only place I'd go locally for NA starts @ $550 or for $650 for power adders. If you want E85 it's another $300 on top of that.

The other big mustang shop in the area, JPC they start around $450 and go up.

It's not cheap in this area.
