Went back to stock driveshaft

Call me crazy but I decided to put my stock driveshaft back one. My gears have a whine to them and the alum shaft just amplified the noise to much for me. I don't race mine and drive very little on the interstate so I don't see high speeds to often. If any one is interested PM me. It was only on the car for about 500 miles:facepalm:

I can't say I blame you. My car is a dd also I and was going to go with a one piece myself, but with all the added noise and what not I decided to just stay with the Oem shaft.
If I tracked mine it would be a different story, but we have to remember for a daily there is nothing wrong with the Oem shaft.

The only reason I'd get the 1 piece is because of their explosive nature over 130.

Even if I tracked my car, it would take a lot more other mods for me to trap over 130 mph in the 1/4 mile, and I don't often get too close to that on public roads.

I believe 3.7s with a procharger or turbo still dont break 130 in the 1/4.
I saw someone on here make a very good point, that the driveshaft limit was initially found with the stock gears, correct? 130 mph on a 2.73 gear is much different than a 3.31-3.73, its likely a much lower speed with those gears since the driveshaft is spinning faster at the same mph.

That being said, we just run this lol. I'd get the 1 piece if i could swing it, but if you're that worried about yours blowing up, this is cheap enough insurance.

I've heard of it being both ways. I was really hoping I was going to be one that it was quite. I even had my gears checked and everything was perfect. I had a few trusted shops tell me that the 4.10's will have some noise

we're a mustang family, and having had a few 11-14s with literally every gear option from 2.73 to 3.73, i feel confident enough saying that there's a direct relationship between how steep a gear is, and how much noise it will make. We even installed a 100% stock 3.55 axle in Valerie's car and get some gear whine from it.

Good decision, man.

I did the same thing. The noise was so much amplified that it became unbearable to me. After putting back the OEM driveshaft, the whining noise is completely gone.

Also, if you ever weigh the OEM driveshaft of the 2013 and 2014 V6 Mustangs, it is only like 27 lbs.

I guess I'm just lucky with my ds.. No problem here so far it's as quite as it can be. I wonder why you guys have the noise problem I don't get it.

Shunc...Do you happen to know (assuming you had it done) if the pinion angle was looked at, for the new DS install?

DUH!!!! 410s? On an auto.. Of course you are going to hear noise. You don't race your car but you installed 410s, somethings wrong with that statement.

Yeah the shop put it on checked it for me and he said that I'm still good that I don't need it..

I switched to a different one and its better but still noisy. I am keeping but I cant say I blame anyone for going back to stock either. Definitely transmits more noise than I expected

Do I have to race my car to justify 4.10's? I drive about 4000 miles a year almost all in town. I like the get up and go that the offer. I knew they would have some noise I was just hoping that the ds didn't amplify it as much as it did.

I remember a couple years ago everyone was like "4.10 or nothing." Now with these kinds of experiences people are learning. It's important for people to assess what is really going to suit their personal driving needs. There are a very small handful of people on this site who are building race cars. For the rest of us, we drive our car on the streets at normal speeds 99% of the time. That is not to say we don't want to modify our cars to make them fun, but we don't need to buy parts for a fantasy-self that is never going to use our cars that way.

^^ It wasn't until after I wrote and entered my post that I saw the previous few comments. I'm not singling anyone out by what I said... just saying that people in general should ask themselves what they really want before making mods. Someone very well might fall in a category where they want significant "get-up-and-go" at the sacrifice of noise and comfort, even though they don't track. But others don't really want that. Just gotta figure it out for yourself what your needs are.

I had my one piece driveshaft installed at the same time my 3:73 gears were installed and been running them for several years now. Not one issue with the gears whining or vibrations from the aluminum driveshaft. I guess that's what I get for having my gears installed correctly along with the axle exchange one piece. Quality makes the difference. ?

Non ?and non ?fed. I $uck!

There must be a difference in the axle exchange

The only thing I hear is my Magnaflows and then I have to tune my ear to hear them rumble.
Since I put the Axle Exchange aluminum drive shaft on my car, The vibration I had when slowing down is 100% gone, The clunk I had when putting it in drive is 100% gone.
The car is smooth all the way up to 100mph.
Now if I let off the gas the car slows down.

The tire noise on some of the roads are terrible but tolerable with the Pirelli P-Zero's but I can't hardly wait till they wear out so I can install Michelin's.

I don't really think any differential should ever make any noise or cause a vibration no matter what ratio is installed. I had a 4.57 in my 65 Mustang Hi-Pro and it never made any noise.
If installed properly and the correct lube, A Differential should not make any sound at all. A Vibration is totally wrong and needs to be corrected.

I have to agree with Ronnie, I hate those Pirelli tires, just to dang much road noise , in fact I will probable replace them early .. So someone tell me What is the stock rear end ratio on a 2014 Premium pony ?

V6 stock would typically be 2.73 unless the 3.31 was an included option or if you have the performance package.

Look on the door sticker on the drivers side

The Ford axle ratio codes are:

BB - 3.73 ratio
CC - 2.73 ratio
DD - 3.55 ratio
GG - 3.31 ratio
YY - 3.15 ratio

Majority on here that has the axle exchange ds doesn't have any problem... So it might be the other brand not the ds.

They do sell a whole lot of aluminum Drive Shafts

Not only Axle Exchange but all brands put out a lot of Drive Shafts and I see the few that have problems usually have had the rear ratio gears changed in the rear differential.
Anybody that has been around any type of racing including Drag Racing should know that a rear differential should NEVER EVER whine or vibrate. It is a sign that the gears were not installed properly. Of course they go to the mechenic that installed the gears to hear that it is normal. "BULL POOP" Properly installed the differential gears make no (I MEAN "NO" vibration or noise at all. Never.

Hi 2011 Kona Blue

I 100% agree,
When the gears are installed correctly and the proper fluid is put in and you think you paid to much. Your gears are not going to make any noise or vibration at all. """NONE"""

And on the point of whine, some people may have whine but don't hear it. Hell my 3.55 have a very faint whine, I hear it but my wife doesn't. You couldnt hear anything at all with the stock shaft but the aluminum brings it out. No big deal to me.
