So it has come to my attention from my friends, that i do not have stock gears.
They think i have 3.53 or 3.73s. Well i wanna know how i can find out. If i have to take it to a shop i will but if i can do it at home please inform me.
See how many RPMs @ 65mph and you should be able to figure out the gear. If you are going to jack your car up, please use stands or some other form of support. Going under the car and moving things with just the jack is playing with fire. Let us know what you come up with! If you do have non-stock gears that must be a pleasant surprise.
Everyone who i am friends with who have cars, or who owned 2 valves say that my car is the best running 2 valve they cam across. Besides speed mister who lives near us.
They say i do not have stock gear but i do. I really think i do.
It's awesome that you enjoy your car's speed with the stock gear set. Any other mods your car might have that might contribute to fast feeling? Maybe the tune you're running? I know stock vs tune makes a pretty big difference in feel, even with a mild street tune.
what year is your car? the transmission gears are different in certain years. a mid 01 to 04 has a tr3650 which is 3.27 stock and will run 18k rpms at 70mph roughly.
if your friends have similar mustangs, and yours is the best running one, then their's must be busted or something. are they driving yours or are they sitting in the passenger seat? because sitting in the passenger seat, a car always feels faster. maybe yours is louder so they think your rpms are higher when not looking at the gauges?

Also tire size, specifically tire height, will have an impact like gears. Shorter tires will have similar effect on acceleration as shorter gears. Are your stock or aftermarket?
A lighter and less restrictive exhaust system like yours coupled with a Race Tune will definitely get a noticeable jump off the line. 285/40/17 tires have just under 26 inch height, if I'm not mistaken. If your friends have tires that are taller, then that accounts for your difference in acceleration. Sorry, don't know the stock tire heights for the earlier 2000's GTs.
245/45/17 for new edge gts. 3.8's have a close wheel base, but slimmer, longer tire and smaller rim.
but either way, theres a lot to factor here. were talking about butt dyno.
mine doesnt launch very well, and by that i mean simply taking off in normal traffic. but in reverse, i can practically drag race backward. Im assuming its because of my worn rear suspension.
Good point about butt dyno. Sometimes a car just feels faster. Your wide tires are definitely going to give some good traction, which might make the car feel more responsive and quick. Have you tried timing your launch to see how fast it actually is say 0-60 or 1/4 mile vs your friends? I really think that the traction from the wider wheels, lighter exhaust, and the race tune are what's giving you such a power boost, or at least feel, over what your friends drive. An aggressive tune alone will do wonders to a car, especially a GT. Now, imagine if you changed up your gears on top of all that :whistling: jaja
