How to install a 2013 Mustang Track Apps Instrument Cluster in a 2013 Base model GT

I will be the pseudo guinea pig for this experiment.

It has already been done and well documented how to install a 2013 premium cluster with track apps into a 2012 model GT. It was pretty complicated as the communication between the 2012 PCM & Cluster needed a "black box" or converter so it could read the data.

For the 2012 swap, a new ABS module is also needed for the Track Apps to be accessed.

Watching everything unfold over the months of research and testing they did on the original swap thread, it became pretty apparent that a '13 to '13 swap would be a lot less involved (in theory).

So this is where I come in. Thanks to those three guys that have more electrical/tech knowledge than I can believe, and shared it all online, I am relatively confident I can pull this off.

I have talked to a couple of the guys that did this with their '12 I have a '13 Track Apps Premium Cluster in hand. (Thanks to TCopp on this site for picking the cluster up as it was a local craigslist sale in his area!)

I bought the 4-pad switch for the left-hand side of the steering wheel and it will be here by the end of the week. I will post step-by-step pics of everything as I go so anyone should be able to do this without a lot of technical experience.

Here is my premium cluster w/Track Apps - Thanks TCopp!

2013 track apps cluster

Part Number DR3T 9E740 BBW you will need. Found this one on eBay shipped for $30.00

Besides the cluster & the CC switch, you will need your dealer to do the following:

1) PATS RELEARN - this is your passive auto theft system, you can start your car with your cluster, and plug in this cluster to test and check it out, but if you try to start your car prior to the PATS RELEARN, your car will not start with the swapped cluster.

2) Load ASBUILT data into the new cluster. This will allow your PCM to communicate with the cluster.

3)Odometer reset - Dealer or some aftermarket shops can sync your odometers

Researching, it looks like the 2013 ABS module that feeds data for the Track Apps is the same for 2013 mustangs. Having the correct ABS module and not having to purchase a "black box" saves you $400 over swapping this into a '12! :good:

The clusters are hard to find. They show up on carparts.com and eBay but go quickly. One on eBay went for $160 and that is ridiculously cheap, but it was a km/h cluster. The only thing I hate is the font and layout of the gauge. I have a boss gauge without the LCD, and am thinking of trying some way to also do a face swap. We will see.

First things First :p

We got that when we tried to hook to a f150 2014 at work. We have hooked to another f150 2013 and f250 2011 and my mustang 2013 I don't know what that fault is or a work around

Okay, got it to work. The main culprit was my VCM II needed to be recovered.

Here is what I did.

Go a hold of a windows XP labtop.
Installed IDS V86
Installed IDS V86 Patch
Installed IDS Ford Extended Programming
Installed BOSCH VCM Software Setup 2.1.119.3
Installed Device Driver

Before opening everything I had to do a master recover on the VCM II using the BOSH VCM Software. To do this you must remove the rubber back on the USB size and push and hold the small red lever button by the micro sd card and plug it in while holding and open the BOSCH VCM II program. Hopefully no one needs to do this. It is really easy but figuring it out was a pain in the cunugget.

Then I just followed the regular directions.

Take note! You must be on your stock tune if you are to do this! You do not have to start the vehicle at all while it is programming, so for you supercharger/turbo guys you do not have to worry.

However! With all that being said.

I have two issues. they are small.

My car does not have reverse sensors and a rear vehicle aid shows up on the gauge cluster when I put my vehicle in reverse. I turned this off in the settings but it does not hold and does this everytime I put the car into reverse.

The next problem is two small - lines (Ex. --) on the radio where the compass would go. This I can live with but if there is a way to remove it I would prefer to.

I think both of these can be solved by programming different as builts into the car. I will try to figure this out at a later time, but if anyone knows how to fix these please send me a PM.

Sure I had mine done - as I recall it was around $75 - I forget the company name but if you look back in this thread the company is listed. It takes about a week to turn around shipping the cluster so try to guesstimate your mileage if you will be driving during that time.

Ox mailed me his tool from CA. Got it today, programmed the keys today! Now I just need to wait for my buttons to come in on Wednesday so I can navigate properly.

Best part of all this? Track apps worked right off the bat. Didn't have to do any additional programming or code finding etc. JESUS FISH THANK YOU!

Couldn't resist the urge as I managed to navigate to the 1/4 on track apps. Took it down my road at the speed limit just to see. Anyone wanna try and beat this time ?!?

Too dark for the iPhone to get good pics. Sport mode gear display worked as well! Couldn't be happier with not having to do anything other than programming the keys for this install.
