May look at this tomorrow. 76k miles, new tires, shocks, struts, new COPs and plugs, CAI (who cares) and tinted windows. Picture's all look real clean, no winters or rust. Mostly stock which is great. Great price at least around me especially if I can get it closer to $5k. It is an auto though, but J mod, tune, higher stall, nice wheels/tires, lower control arms, subframes, lower it, and it would run really well. Getting ahead of myself. Guy wants rid of it, bought it for his son, not sure what happened there but I dont care if it checks out. Let me know what you think??

Thanks. Still holding out to order tires until next week when I confirm I have all 4 in the same color.

Think Ive narrowed down what tires Im going to order though when I order them:

275/40 18- BFG Sport Comp 2's Almost 11" wide tread so will be more like a 295 on the 10" rear wheel. 26.7" tall

265/40 18- Sumitomo HTR III's
Should be close to flush with the 9" front wheel. 26.3" tall

Going with the little taller tire to eat up 3/4"-1" of wheel/fender gap. Then I think I will go with the SR springs or something with a 1.5" drop, and no isos, so roughly 1.6"-1.7" drop in the end. I will be driving this one more than my other one, like a halfway DD in the summer so a 1/2" higher may come in handy. I know it will still bottom out on things. One day I will put coil overs on it, or at least thats the plan. I will be using the new OEM struts/shocks that were put on it about 300 miles ago from the PO. Im going to try to get away without CC plates with this amount of drop and get the alignment done. If I need them to get back to spec then Ill get them and have to pay for another alignment. Im very tempted to order the Koni shocks/struts while their on sale though, this was my plan last week lol, along with Sportlines or Super Sports.

If your roads suck and you're concerned about bottoming out and don't want to replace everything I'd go with the SR springs or something that drops the car ~1.5".

Here's the Mach with the SR springs, wrapped ends and factory Tokico suspension:

Definitely an improvement over the factory gap but never had clearance or scraping issues with that setup.

It looks good. 18" wheels?

But then I look at the pics with your H&Rs and it looks so much better. IDK. Have to decide quick before the sale is over

Yes 18x9 Saleens. The aspect ratio was semi close too so taller tires didn't contribute to reducing gap.

The Koni sale started March 1st and I believe it runs into April but not for too long.

Hopefully everything I order isnt this hard, haha

255/35's up front and 285/35's out back so when basing it solely on math the tires were actually slightly shorter in height compared to my current setup.

#188 ·
So your fronts were 25" and rears were 25.9". 25.7" is the stock height on most. Those look good still even being on the shorter side for the fronts I mean.

Do you think if I go with the 265 40s at 26.3" about 1"-1.25" taller and the 275 40s at 26.7" about 3/4"-1" taller than your old set-up in the pics, would make that much difference gap wise? I assume it would eliminate about 1" of gap front and 3/4" rear from what you had back then if I went with those tire sizes.

Pretty certain those are the sizes Im going to stick with and order shortly.

Mathematically yes, you will increase tire height and close the wheel gap. I say "mathematically" because some tire manufacturers' tires tend to run narrower or wider than others. For example, if a Sumi 265/40/18 has a 26.34Ø on paper, but actually measures closer to a 245, then you will have a 25.7Ø, or factory height tire and not gain anything.

From what I can tell, the Asian manufacturers (Sumitomo, Nankang) run narrower where the BFG's, Michelin and Goodyear tires run true or much wider, as with the BFG's.

Hopefully Scotty will read thru and add/correct anything if I'm wrong. He seems to understand the aspect ratios and sidewall measurements pretty well.

And I have to tell you that your new Rovos and H&R set up has made your car my favorite on ME now. Used to be Slow4v I think was his name who had the white Mach 1 on here a while back, think he sold it and got a 03/04 Cobra IIRC. Anyway, Alex from AM before he sorted out my mismatched wheel issue was going to quote me on a set of the satin gunmetal Rovos Durbans like you have, for a "deal". Didnt get far enough into it to see what the price was going to be, more than what I paid for sure. I was going to just get them either way, order them out of frustration, lol. There weren't really any others I wanted on their site, had my mind made up on a spoked more concave wheel. I was also considering the SVE series 3 wheels (I think thats their model) in silver or the color like anthracite. I have always liked that look as well. They would have been around $600 +/- for the wheels which isnt bad.

Haha thanks man. I'm real happy with the results. She's basically done now for appearance, Gonna pick up some smoked tails from AM then it's Procharger time

Honestly, the MMD's look similar to the Durbans. They don't have as much concavity in the rear but that's not a deal breaker in my book. As I said, if AM would've had that sale about 2 months earlier, I'd have those on the car instead. For the price they can't be beat. I paid ~1k for the Durbans during the Black Friday sale on LMR. (This was before AM started carrying them). If I would've gotten the MMD's, I would've spent ~$200 more for both wheels and tires.

I think you'll be extremely happy with them once they are on the car.

I think I will like them when its all said and done. I get what youre saying about the manufacturers and heights. The Sumi 265 specs say its 26.3 but that could be generic due to the size its supposed to be. I may end up with BFGs all around if thats the case, or something I can be confindent in size wise. Could even use the 275 40 up front and have them the same size all around since the sumi 275 is a full inch less in width than the BFGs.

Just over thinking it cause I want it lowered to a good looking height but still high enough to deal with these crappy Michigan roads a little better. I know its an oxymoron to lower a car and still want a decent ride. Don't care about the ride as much as I do bottoming out and scraping everywhere. Ill decide in the next day or so

Just really want to go coilover on this one in the next couple of years yet still have a better look in between. I think I know what I need to get now.

#194 ·
I think coil overs would suit you better. With them you can achieve the lowered look you want for shows, pictures etc. but have the ability to raise the car up for driving on the rough roads.

A good set of coilovers should be painless to adjust on the fly.

#195 ·
I think so too. Realistically probably a couple years down the road. Spend about $1500-$2000 on a good set. Just want to get some other things done first this year.

If you want to eliminate the factory gap in the meantime pick up a set of SR springs and drop her 1.5". It'll look much better than stock and you won't have to replace everything.

Then when you are ready for coil overs you are only replacing the springs, which you could probably sell and recoup some of your money back.

#197 ·
Thats true. Wasnt even thinking about that.

Speakimg of recoupimg money, I will be selling the wheels and tires on the 03 as soon as I switch them out. Their the stock Bullits, in pretty good shape, especially once I clean them all up, they have basically new, but have been sitting a few years Continental DWS tires on them. The tires are in great shape no signs of dry rot, or cracks, hold air, basically full tread. Maybe like 600 miles on them. I was thinking of selling them and asking $600, the tires are worth at least 80-100 a peice. There 245/45 17s. Any ideas on pricing? Ive seen them on Craigslist for around this price near me with tires that are in poor shape. I want to sell them quick though, and dont want to deal with a bunch of craigslist crap. Maybe I'll ask $550 and take down to $475??

#200 ·
Take $500 minimum for them. They are OEM Bullitts. Or $300 for a pair. Some ppl (like the previous owner of my old 98) want OEMs for the fronts and get aftermarket 17x10.5s for the rear.

#201 ·
I agree with what has been said. Throw them up for $550 and gauge the interest level.

There are plenty of 94-04 v6 owners that want bullitts for their cars and don't want to drop $1k for new wheels/tires.

Also as Scotty said some guys want to keep the slimmer profile of the 17x8 up front so they may appeal to those buyers as well.

#202 ·
I will give it a shot then here in a 2-3 weeks

Is that how long you are anticipating it will take to get the correct rims after AM ships you charcoal ones 3 more times?

I just noticed today that one of mine is damaged. But already got the return situated.

I'm probably going for 295/35-18 NT05 tires, and have a hook up for free install. Just gotta buy my friend lunch lol.

Thats a good sized ding. Im sure they had no issues replacing it for you, youre special to them anyway lol. But they have never given me issues with damaged parts.

On to other news, my 18x10 SILVER MMDs came today!! Now I have the whole set and will probably order tires tomorrow night, so I have to know exactly what Im ordering and be done with it. Then Ill be onto obsessing over the lowering springs and how low to go, and how much work I want/can put into the suspension.

Well I assume the wheels are right, their silver at least, had my wife check them because Im still at work. Ill check them out tonight when I get home.

Again THANK YOU ALEX from AMERICAN MUSCLE!

We get a ton of shipments and orders in at my work for customers and we have to open everything in packages too make sure there is no damage mostly. We end up with quite a few damaged items. Problem is these mis handled packages we end up getting the blame from the customers.

NICE! Just make damn sure to go over them with a fine tooth comb. I'm not sure after all these issues I would send them back for a minor blem but if if they are like the one Soccer got...

#217 ·
For sure. I opened them up last night and inspected them. They look good, but thats definitely good advice. Ive been burned before opening something and not insecting it 100% and then its a month or two later and you find that its damaged. That sucks when a place has a limited time return policy like 30 days or some things are even less.

I think so. The Sumi HTRZ IIIs in a 265 40 18- everything I can find spec wise has them listed as 26.3" tall like I wanted. I did compare a bunch of diff manufacturers and they range from 26"-26.7" tall in that same size and vary in width. The rear Im gonna stick with the BFG Sport Comps in a 275 40 18, their 26.7" tall, and are as wide as a 285 or even a 295 compared to other manufacturers.

Let me know how those HTRZ III tires are for a street car. Would not expect them to be spectacular but might be a good option for just cruising or blasts down a back road or going quick around corners on the street. Obviously not for competition.

#221 · (Edited)
I will. They have decent reviews but no one is using them for anything competitive from what Ive seen. Im sure someone has though, theres someone for everything, lol. All the uses you stated is about what Ill be doing with them, just a decent DD summer tire with decent wear. The tread on them doesnt look to far off from the BFGs, if their not right next to each other that is, and should ride smoothly at least OK together too. Sidewalls dont have anything to crazy on either of them to make it obvious they are different. But people run diff tires on the rear for traction anyway. It kind of bothers me not having them match but not hugely. Ill let you know how they are for sure.

Will do. I have been looking at the HTR 2s also, but I dont think Ive seen them in a 40 sidewall just the 35. I know there arent a ton of 285 40 18s tires and are usually pretty pricey. I still could just do the 275 35 and 285 35 set up too, would save about a $100 or a little more. But I probably will be more happy with the little bit taller tire especially if only using SRs and no isos, H&R Sports, or Eibachs.

#224 ·
One thing to know is that the HTR2's run fairly narrow. I have 285/35/18's on two of my old 18x9" Saleens and they are about flush. So I imagine they would look stretched on a 10" wheel. If you look at pictures on AM, most of the 285's on 10" wheels aren't flush.

And I think you will prefer the taller sidewall, especially if you run a milder drop spring.
