Ecoboost and Bama Tune

So I waited an entire week after picking up my new 16' Ecoboost with PP to drop in a tune. Hoping to find a safe strip of road to get some times. But my new Bama 93R tune really woke up the car. Butt dyno says I'm in a different car. Torque increases over stock are so confidence inspiring, I find myself looking for a turnaround when I see a Corvette going the other way. Numbers to follow hopefully this weekend. (CAI coming tomorrow - I like the sound, don't judge me!)

Update: Most of you likely knew about CAI sounds on the Ecoboost already I'm betting but I didn't. With that in mind, passing this along to 'the next guy.' My previous ride was a 14' Mustang with the 3.7 six (great car). The CAI on the sixer deepened the exhaust note a bit and gave the whoosh whoosh as the throttle opened up. On the Ecoboost, the engine note seems unaffected but from up front you get more of a shirrh shirrh sound quickly followed by a distinctly audible (now) turbo blow off value. I sort of like it but my wife got in and asked "Is the car broken? What's that sound? What's wrong with it?"

I thought I'd pass this along for others not in the know (as I wasn't either.) No performance increases via butt dyno. I definitely will be storing my old intake away carefully giving myself an option to go back to factory. For now, bring on the shirrhhh... blissch!

When you say "installed" you mean to avoid purchasing a tuner. Not a bad decision. You can get a good no frills tuner for under four clams but if you are only looking to tune once (meaning you have all the mods on you want) it really does save you some dough. For consideration, I like having my own tuner (it really is as easy as updating a smart phone to do) because I can change the tune from a 93 octane balls out tune to 87 octane pump gas tune depending if it is going to be a track weekend or a daily commute. Just food for thought.

I have a Bama 93 Octane Race Tune on my 2013 V/6 PP, 6 speed. Did Airaid Cold Air, Bigger TB, Magnaflow Street Axle Back, Alum Drive shaft to save weight. Car did on the dyno at Carlisle 261 HP which is about the same as a stock unit did for the baseline test buy American Muscle. They did 258HP if I remember right. I run Shell 93 Octane and really thing other that a nicer sound it was a waste of money.

I put the shorty headers on a few weeks before it was totaled. That gave it even more mid range punch. Sounds like you have your ride dialed in though.

Kinda hard for them to void your warranty due to a tune, plenty of case laws out there now that they have to go through to prove the tune messed with anything.

#11 ·
Then they would be hearing from my lawyer, there is plenty of other mustangs making more power, i.e. the GT's and the GT500's. Pretty sure the GT's use the same rear diff. and Slushboxes

If you don't think that any manufacturer will void warranties (and have their decision stand up in court), do a little research into Ford, Dodge and Chevy diesel truck tunes and having all three of them deny warranty claims for any part of the drivetrain when the engine has been tuned.
Some of those diesels were making CRAZY HP and torque numbers before going --- BANG!

Worked on the diesel side actually, and my first question is if the customer had a programmer on it. If they answered truthfully, i kept the warranty, when they tried to hide it and cover their tracks, i would then void it because of bs.

People would run wild tunes on them and pump 40+ lbs of boost on stock engines and think they would hold.

All the car side, it was all generic canned tunes and didn't do any harm lol

Boom

Roush Performance tune installed on the RS1 yesterday but of course it was raining when I drove her home. So I have the Roush CAI, Performance tune and the Roush 3 year extended warranty on the car.

Follow report after I get a chance to run the car.

Plus the standard Ford Racing cross brace arrived today so once I get it installed I will be ready for another Cars & Coffee.

The ECO with Performance Package comes only with the K brace and i wanted to add the standard strut brace.

Well whats the scoop? How the tune?

Good deal B2. I'd like to hear about it. At least there are a few of us "angry fours" who like to swap info. Didn't get out to my fav back road yet here either. But... Eibach Pro-kit partially installed. Partially as the wife came home just as I finished up front springs. Some things are better kept secret. "Just cleaning some stuff here babe." I'm planning on taking the rear apart on Saturday morning to "clean some hard to get to parts". :)

Then yall have some ****ty dealers. Have had tunes on almost every single vehicle i have had and never once had any issues. Go in, if they ask if it's tuned, i tell them yes. They can't tell if it was tuned for different timing, etc... Only can see if the vehicle's computer is flashed. Can't tell what is flashed, for all they know it's a speedo calibrator. Before you say they can, they can't. Used to work at ford and dealt with it all the time, the only thing they can see on their computer is when and how many times the computer was flashed. Not exactly what is flashed.

Even then, you become friends with dealers, and advisers, normally you won't have any issues. I have dodge's tuned, Chevy's tuned, Ford's tuned, and Toyota's tuned, once again no issue with warranty. I normally return tune back to stock if they have a computer update, but that's about it.

Also curious about the RS1 tune, wondering how well it will be. I have just the base SCT on the EB now, waiting for my VMP Tune to come in for it.

The final say on whether a repair will be covered by warranty isn't the dealer's call. If the manufacturer wants to send a field engineer out for an engine or transmission, then the dealer is at their mercy on warranty covereage.

And saying "but the law says that the manufacturer has to prove the mod caused the problem" won't cut it. What the response to that is, "we sent the field engineer out, here's his report and conclusion, your repair is not going to be covered". There is all the proof they need. The burden shifts to you now. Hire your experts, start the lawsuit, and refute the determination. Going to cost you a lot, and manufacturers have deeper pockets and more experts at their disposal.

Magnuson-Moss Act.......To not be covered under warranty it needs to be documented fact the the mod you did caused the issue, that is more for bolt ons but when it comes to internal engine components that's a differant deal when it comes to warranty work. I wouldn't worry about CAI,headers, cat back exhaust or a tune from a reptible tuner.
If your still worried about warranty don't touch anything till your warranty Period is over, then mod the heck out of it.

Uh... guys... Perhaps you should start a thread that covers this topic and not do it on this one.

I know this is About the Eco but I just bought a 16 V6 and the only mods I will due untill my warranty is over are the CAI.cat backs and I did the MPT tune to try being I have the Bama tune in my 95 GT( with my turbo on I run Quarterhorse tuner) but as far as the Eco goes it's the same as my V6,just do the mods you know will be ok while its under warranty. I'm not sure I will do headers with my 16 being the factory is supposed to be pretty good. When I have all the mods on I will data log it and have a new tune written and then I should be good to go.

Just got a PM from Ford on facebook.

Ford Performance Richard, the Power Upgrade Pack for the 2.3L EcoBoost Mustang is scheduled to be ready for sale at the end of the month. The HP and Torque gains will be worth the wait. The Ford Performance calibration is CARB compliant - meeting these emission standards does take a bit longer to achieve. Thank you for your patience.

My friend installed a bama tune on his ecoboost and I couldn't even tell the difference from stock. He switched to Lund and damn what a difference! Also he took the car to a speed shop with the bama tune on and they said they were surprised the engine didn't blow up it was so bad.

Still no times here yet but the Bama race tune and performance tune both rock. Reading about mikey's friend above makes me wonder was there a physical tuner issue there. Even the performance tune on my eco is a night and day improvement over stock. Just to be clear for folks without a tune, when I say night and day difference, I'm not just saying that for some figurative reference. I mean, it takes the car from "sporty" to feeling like a whole different car. First time with the race tune, I was bewildered because the car in two minutes became silly fast.

Well? Whats the scoop on your wifes dynotune.

Hello

So my car has been upgraded to the Roush RS1 power reflash with the Roush CAI.

Here is the situation.

I purchased the BAMA tunes for life for the RS1 before I stumbled into the free performance upgraded for the 2015 RS1 from Roush.

I am thinking about checking the difference between the two tunes so I will take my tuner and save my factory tune (Roush tune) and retune with the Bama Performance tune. I can give both a try.

Thoughts?

Any further info from you guys with pending (back months ago when this was a fresh thread) on Steeda and Roush tune comparisons?
