May look at this tomorrow. 76k miles, new tires, shocks, struts, new COPs and plugs, CAI (who cares) and tinted windows. Picture's all look real clean, no winters or rust. Mostly stock which is great. Great price at least around me especially if I can get it closer to $5k. It is an auto though, but J mod, tune, higher stall, nice wheels/tires, lower control arms, subframes, lower it, and it would run really well. Getting ahead of myself. Guy wants rid of it, bought it for his son, not sure what happened there but I dont care if it checks out. Let me know what you think??

Just another angle. Thinking of getting it plasti dipped, the whole car. Looking at metallics with a satin finish. I like the silver metalized color on DYC.com. local guy does dips for $700 if metalized vs $500-600 for flat dips. Still not sold on this company as I want to see more of their work. You can view their work on Instagram @diplabllc

Got a Bassani cat back with Bassani 3.5" tips of course and a BBK off road X pipe (short for LTs) for $80 yesterday. Quite the deal for a cat back that costs over $550 new and a $160- $200 mid pipe approx. Bassani cat back is all stainless so I will be getting it all cleaned up before I install it. Should be a nice addition after adding the Pypes off road H pipe a while back. I will be selling the BBK off road pipe for longtube headers if anyone is interested in it. Im asking $80 plus shipping for it. Ill send pics if anyone requests them, its clean and in great used condition.

Also its hard to tell from this pic angle but I did clean up the one tip with NeverDull, scratch X a couple coats, steel wool, and then polished/buffed it. Still needs a little work to be perfect but in this condition the tips will end up looking almost new under the car anyway. Spent about 30 min on it so far.

I also ended up selling my PI heads I got mid summer and the short block and some other misc parts for $350 on Craigslist, I paid $100 for it all. I still have the alt bracket, valve covers, oil dipstick, injectors, alternator, pullies, vac lines, OEM plenum, etc, etc. I still want to do the swap on my 96 GT but I want to find newer/cleaner PI heads possibly with the cams already upgraded.

Which one do you enjoy driving more?

I probably do prefer driving the 96 more...it is a stick...not the only reason..it rides better...smoother but firmer if that makes sense? It has better suspension than the 03 and overall is cleaner. The 03 is rust free as well but it definitely had a harder life than the 96 has had. They both have close to the same mileage on them, 96 has 74k now and the 03 has 77k. 96 had 40k or so when I got it 6.5 yrs ago.

The 96 has more work and money into it, just better parts. If I keep the 03 for a few years it will get the same eventually. Plus I made a lot more money through the years of the 96 than I do now...or the past 4 mths since I made a job change. Less money but I like life a lot better, see my family more, and dont really have anymore work related stress. There is only so long you can work 70-80 hrs a week (no overtime salaried life) and not have it take its toll on you! ....

Funny how a simple question led to all of that..haha..sorry

And the 03 has an exhaust leak Ive been dealing with. Its a very long story at this point. This is why I picked up the Bassani catback exhaust a few days ago. I need a new mid pipe (even tho the one on it is a new Pypes off road h) catback and maybe a drivers side exhaust manifold.

Long and short is that I know I mentioned not wanting to and not liking to do exhaust work or getting under there and dealing with stubborn bolts and not having the car high enough or the correct ways to get it high enough. Anyway I had an appt to get it done at my local Muffler Man who has done probably 6 or 7 cat deletes for me over the years in some shape or form, dropped it off, quoted $125 to swap it out, manager calls me mid day after dropping it the night before and says they cant eliminate the cats. We went back and forth because of course Ive had it done several times at this same location. I know its illegal if they get turned in, but it was always very loose with that stuff in Mi before since there arent inspections and ive never heard of anyone getting pulled over and checked for cats etc, ever in my life in this state. Besides the point now.....a guy at work recommended a guy who works out of his garage and used to own his own for years but down sized in the recession and has been doing it this way for years. I called him up and seemed very knowledgeable, experienced, ASE certified etc etc. Says he can do it no problem and that he does exhaust work all the time and has access to a lift close by at his dads collision shop if he needs it but he usually doesnt for these Installs, eluding to that he has done them before on cars several times. So 3 days go by and he says its done. I go there and immediately notice my exhaust tips are sticking out about 1 1/2" more than they should. So i ask about this and he says "it was like that already" I said "no it wasnt they sit just about flush with the rear valance cut outs". Regardless I pay the $120 for labor and he says its good to go. I start it up to leave and it has a leak. I pulled out because I couldnt turn around where it was, turn around come back and he was already in his house and wouldnt answer the door or phone! At this point I had to get to work so I left, called a few times from work and he answered (diff phone #). I tell him about the leak and he says it wasnt doing that when he tested it. I got under the car when I got home and see that he welded the whole mid pipe together, tried to weld it to the manifolds, and the catback too! I was beyond pissed at this point and called and called and he finally answered a text. We went back and forth a few times, and agree that he is to take it all off, start over, buy new parts do whatever needs to be done to make it right and he apologized. I figured at this point why not the mid pipe is prob ruined anyway. So fast forward 27 days and he still has my car and on day 28 says its ready and its 100% (there was plenty of back and forth during this time, he had every excuse) I documented my milage etc before dropping it off with a pic, he only drove it 5 miles so he wasnt at least driving it this whole time but he did have cars in and out during this time frame as I would drive by time to time to see what was going on (stalked). Anyway get it back and he says he needs $80 for parts etc from re-doing it. I tested it and it wasnt leaking and sounded good, so I reluctantly gave him $60 cause thats all I had on me and we were squared up. By the time I got home about 10 miles it was leaking in the same spot by the manifold, and in 3 other spots where his welds broke. Again back and forth with calls and texts and he wants me to bring it back and I told him F NO!! So as it stands now he ruined my entire exhaust system some how? Cracked or cut a bolt out on the manifold on the drivers side, hence the leak, used the wrong hardware in his attempt to at least bolt instead of weld this time to the manifolds, everything else he hacked up with welds was still done. Ive now taken it to 4 shops and they say its the worst job on an exhaust they have ever seen and when I tell them what happened they wont touch it, I dont blame them. All quotes are at 1k or more.

So now I have to source all the parts again and have it all redone. I need the mid pipe and a stock manifold now. And I filed to take him to small claims court, I have pics before and after, receipts from my parts dated, estimates for the exhaust work that it needs, all of his texts and voice-mails, and an estimate to repair the pinch welds he bent all along the bottom of my car!

So basically all added up its gonna cost 2k+ to fix everything! I probably wont see a dime but Im gonna try for the $75 in court fees regardless

I have an attorney that partners with me with my music studio (a free attorney is always great to have around). I have had issues similar to yours and was told by my attorney buddy that I would be wasting his and my time filing the paperwork. The court date can show, and the person could skip the date, giving you the win; or show up and lose.

Unfortunately the loser in this little debacle could ignore paying you and take a hit to their credit (which is likely already bad) due to a judgment placed on their record.

In the end you will be proven right, and he will be proven wrong. If a piece of paper and the voice of a judge satisfies you, go for it.

This was my advice on a small claims issue. On top of that, the defendant can really complicate things and appeal the ruling.

The justice system is slow and sometimes complicated. It does make for an amusing day at times when I get to watch my attorney play chess with other attorneys.

Your experience right there is why I have a really hard time trusting someone who works out of their home. Good luck trying to get some compensation from him, hopefully you win. If you're looking sorry some stock manifolds try posting a wanted ad on forums or one of the 99-04 Facebook pages. I had a bunch of guys asking $20 for stock manifolds before I found some brand new JBA's for $100.

#562 ·
I know I went against my better judgement on this one. I guess the recommendation from the guy at work and all the times he has used him made me give it a shot. Thanks for the advice on the stock manifold. I was also looking at maybe just doing shorty headers instead since they come cheaper and are a much easier install. I know you dont see any power gains from them, I would be using them just out of necessity to get my exhaust from killing me with fumes lol

So I got a quote back from a guy I met this summer from doing some CL deals with. He works at the best performance chassis, machine, restoration, roll cage, everything race car shop in Mi..lol. His boss was actually in Louisiana on and off this summer making headers and doing custom frame/ suspension/cage work for a couple of the cars on Street Outlaws Louisiana- Shane Lester (i think) is one of them on there he did a carbon fiber tub job for his Cobra and suspension and headers/roll cage for another guy on there. Anyway he can fix the cut/split in my manifold so my pipe can bolt up the way its supposed to and re weld basically the whole thing this guy botched up, also throw the catback on I got for $565 labor. My cheapest quote so far...m

Oh....I have a question too off the exhaust saga subject of my car...there is a guy locally that will sell me 97 (I think or 99) Mark VIII 4v heads, complete good condition set w/cams, valve covers and everything else to do a 4v swap on a 2v including the wite harness for $40. I was thinking of getting them since their so cheap to re sell them? Is there any profit to be had with these or market at all? I can sit on them for as long as it takes for the $40 investment.

Any opinions/advice appreciated!

Thats what I said but the cost of doing that out weighs getting the mid pipe cheaper at least at shops around me.

Got my cars H pipe "saga" finally over with. All issues have been fixed. The shop that did it is called Bad Habitz Fab in Maybee Mi, right next to the Milan Dragway (for those of you in Mi you will know where that is). They did and incredible job fixing all the welds and repairing my cast stock manifold where the other idiot split it. They found a few more issues and basically re-welded everything he did, cleaned up, de burred, and welded obviously. The H pipe is now bolted to the manifolds correctly on both sides, the H pipe itself is welded cause the first guy did that for some reason, and the cat back is now fixed and bolts correctly. To get my tips to sit flush where they are supposed to I will probably have to install that Bassani catback I got a couple weeks ago since the first guy jacked that part up. They have several full drag builds going on there so they didnt have time to do much more work for me like installing the cat back but I can take it back over the winter. They dont usually do repair jobs at all like this because their other business is too busy and lucrative I would assume but since I kind of knew the one guy who works there his boss was willing to help me out. It was nice to drive it today without getting poisoned from fumes and it sounding like an 84 suburban with rust holes in the muffler.
