i have a 2000 automatic v6. when i turn my steering wheel, it squeaks and crunches really loudly underneath? what is this?

it might also be the tie rod/ ball joint/ strut area as well. Does it sound like it comes from one of the wheels? Get a friend to pin point its location while its doing it.

If it's a tie rod end then he would hear it going over bumps in the road as well. If it's only when turning then i'd think it's his ps pump like brent said.

Easiest thing for you to do first is check your power steering fluid.

I have the same problem when I break and the car bends over, when I accelerate or when I hit a bump. Do I need to replace my struts? I'm hoping not to since that's a $500+ upgrade.

I also have a thumping noide under the front of my car? I can feel it in the gas pedal and the passengers can fel it under their feet when they are sitting in the front passenger seat? I can hear it thump thump thump while I drive? What could this be? i was told soemthing about my wheel bearings?

any chance you can have someone turn the wheel? (car off, in park/gear with the ebrake on so they don't run you over..) lie under the front and listen around the steering rack? There have been problems with where the rack bolts go through the subframe drying out, and making noise. also be sure to listen around each tie rod (the parts that come out of the rack that go to the wheels..)

If you don't hear it from under the front of the car w/the car off (which discounts the power steering pump) start listening under the dash, where the steering shaft goes through the firewall
