The Shelby GT500 has replaced the SVT Cobra since it was introduced in 2007. There are some people who love the GT500 and there are those that wish the SVT Cobra would return.
So lets see what you guys think should happen when Ford redesign the Mustang in 2014. Should they stay with Shelby or ditch the name and bring back the SVT Cobra?
And just saying Shelby is producing 550hp with the gt500 while svt was only producing 400hp in their cobras. I love both but don't try and knock Shelby, he is the king and will always be. I vote let the customers see who wins. Whoever sells more stays and ford kicked svt off for a reason.

Not really sure why everyone is on the SVT wagon personally....IMO the only SVT they came out with that was worth a lick in my eyes was the termi. Rumor has it the only reason that drivetrain came about was because they missed deadline after deadline and someone was going to be thrown to the fire if they didnt produce, so they tossed really good components in there and called it a day.
Absolutely NOT!!! The name "Shelby" stands for innovation, leading cutting-edge technology, and award winning performance. Changing to Shelby GT600 SVT or GT6XX SVT (whatever the horsepower is going to be) would make more sence. Keeping the Shelby moniker is synonymous with WINNING and modern age performance. Cobra, on the other hand is a bit nostalgic, antiquated, and has a stale ring of “old, yesterday’s news” instead of a bright fresh look into the future. That’s my two cents.

Sorry, Brent. I guess my thought was, by all means keep the Shelby. Insead of offering thier SVT package as an option, just make part of the vehicle. Hence, the idea of a Shelby GT6XX SVT. For that matter, they could just drop the SVT lable all together, making it a part of the Shelby.
Another thought, based on ME news I received earlier today. I guess keeping the model designator GT500 will be appropriate afterall, as support for twin-turbo's dies within Ford. Too bad, I was really looking forward to a 600(+) HP version.

You still have it backwards. Keep the svt because that's who does the work. Drop the Shelby because all he does is sit back and collect a check for ford putting his name on the car.
Also, it's not an svt package. Svt, or what's left of svt, built the car. Shelby just tagged his name on it for a paycheck.
I say Shelby. I know it's a little comical seeing the Shelby name on EVERYTHING, but until the GT500, the Cobra was just a Mustang GT with more ponies. (and until 2003, not that many more)
With the 2013 GT500 being such a beast compared to the previous modern GT500's and the death of Shelby, I think Ford should retire the current body style with a Cobra. I think they should differentiate this car, best they can, from the GT500 and try to implement a few subtle hints of the next generation Mustang. I think they should be low in numbers. Maybe find some number that has meaning (for example produce 2,014 matching the model year). Then, I think they should hold off a year or two and not produce either model, to find out how the 2015 is received.
Their contract runs out in 2013. My thinking is there will be no GT500 in 2013 and they will either do something else in 2014 (Cobra) or renew their contract with Shelby.
I think they should retire the GT500 and come back out with the cobra to show respect to the late Carroll Shelby (RIP:headbang.. Since he aint here no more they should'nt use his name on the 2014s.... This is coming from a GT500 owner

I thought I read that the Shelby GT500 was still good for 2014 according to the contracts/deals that were set. I'd think 2015 would be the big change in body style / badging
Ford will drop something as they introduce newer models. For 2014, no more school bus yellow Boss , which I think is the best color for the Boss. Yay or nay?
I think it would be best to drop not only the Shelby name, but also the cobra moniker, as both harken back to Carrol Shelby. He was an amazing force for the performance car industry. I dreamed of owning one for a long time, and now that I do, I am incredibly proud of it. Ford's SVT is young and is set up for some amazing successes, and I feel like they should break out on their own, and show what they are made of!
In short, the 2013s were, I think, the last cars that Carrol Shelby had a hand in developing, so I feel like those are the last "true" Shelbys. Sorry, Shelby American!
Isn't SVT going to make a Mach 1 in 2017? That's a rumor going around.
