Weird starting problem...
Ok, not sure where this goes, I'm not sure if it's my tune or what. Ok, the past two mornings, it's been in the high 30's here. I go outside, crank my car up and it acts like it's trying to keep itself started, but's just barely accomplishing it for about 30 seconds. Sounds kinda like I have the lopiest cam ever made lol. After about 30 seconds it's fine, I put it around 2000 for a few seconds and it's fine the rest of the day. I told my roommate about it monday and he didn't believe me. When I left at 7 this morning, it did it, and woke him up, he's stumped as well. I can't tell whether it's stuttering or what...any ideas anyone?

Re: Weird starting problem...
so the engine turns over but idles funny? almost sounds like it's not getting enough air. what is it idling at? I know when i first had my CAI i didn't tighten down the cupling connected to the TB enough and on sharp turns it would slide off a bit, then the car would sputter and eventually die.
or maybe your oil is too thick and cold so in the morning it gives the valves a hard time.:dunno: or maybe it's your tune. idk. just throwing out ideas here.

Re: Weird starting problem...
Yea it's prob just because of the cold. Besides that I'm stumped.

Sounds fuel related

Re: Weird starting problem...
I was gonna say check fuel pressure but wouldn't the car sputter all day instead of just on the cold mornings?

Re: Weird starting problem...
I say it's related to your spark plugs maybe, check the gap on them. Also, when you go to start your engine, try this. Turn the car on, but do not start. You should hear your fuel pump turn on. After you hear the fuel pump turn on, see if it still stumbles, and let me know plz.

Re: Weird starting problem...
My vote goes to bad gas.

The cold should make the car idle higher than normal, not want to die.

Re: Weird starting problem...
Well, this morning I didn't leave till 930, so it warmed up a little. I'm gonna try it again in the morning, leaving at 7. And the connection with my roommate was that he didn't believe me...and I woke him up doing it. Haha, i dunno. But...I'm probably gonna go ahead and check my fuel filter and run some injector cleaner, can't hurt. It does this every once in a while...but it's gotten alot more common since it cooled down.

Re: Weird starting problem...
I still think you need to check you spark plugs, when they get cold they get a bigger gap as well. Not much, but a bigger gap means you need more power to make the spark. I had this problem with my wife's car and see ended up having a .080" gap on her plugs in the cold. You may not have the same problem, but it's little things like that, that cause problems like you're having. I would just pull the front plug on each side and see what the gap is.

Re: Weird starting problem...
You can have a tuner tweak the start up protocals after the o2 sensors get hot they take over.

Re: Weird starting problem...
If it happens again press down on the gas a little while cranking it over. If it starts better that way then you need to get a new idle air control solenoid (aka an iac valve). this controls the air intake at idle and alot of times when it gets cold they have the tendency to stay closed. It happens more so in cold than in the warm.

Re: Weird starting problem...
Trust me...I slammed the gas a few times. It's stopped doing it recently.
