Rear end leaking....

I have a 02 gt and the rear end was leaking before so I replaced the pionion seal and seemed ok for a month or so and now it seems like its leaking from somewhere else. The seal that I replaced isnt wet with fluid or anything but I can see thats it wet on the axle and the exaust and all over underneath where the chunk is, any ideas?

most of them leak over the pumpkin cover~ generally there is no seal there, just RTV or what not and if ANY oil is on the edge it wont seal good, and over time it can just leak

I know its not leaking from the bottom of the cover but it might from the top of it. Theres really no where else for it to leak from is there?

Input shaft seal, axle seals, and the cover. Unless you axle housing is cracked.

How do you know? Is the vent towards the front of the chunk or towards the pass. side?

It's on the passenger side right under the exhaust. They come out easy with a wrench, make sure it's not plugged and the cap moves freely. Same thing happened on my 97.

My rear seems to have started leaking as well :( I didn't get a chance to take a nice close look at it yet. The guy at the exhaust shop said it looked like the pinion seal.

Re: Rear end leaking....

Ill check the vent this weekend and see if thats whats going on, but from the sounds of it that just might be it. Ill check back in and share what I found. Thanks

Re: Rear end leaking....

Well no luck. The pionion seal looked dry, vent was dry, the back cover was wet a little wet around bottom and the bolts were a little loose but thats it. I dont think the bottom on the pan leaking would get to the front of diff and on the mufflers could it?This only seems to happen when I'm in the gas for a little.

Is your diff cover pitted? I've seen em leak through the cover before. Hopefully it's just the bolts being loose.
