1983 mustang gt restoration

10 Attachment(s)
Here i will put my progress and updates of my first restoration project on a 1983 mustang gt.

I bought this today on 9/30/2013 for 400 and cant wait to get it all together.

This is the stuff i have done today. Along with some shots before i started ripping in to it.

Would appreciate any advice on this build, never restored one before, and im still unsure if i want to restore it to its former glory or make a strip car.

Nice find, I'd pay that for the interior.

Ya interior is in great shape, just taking out the carpet so I can clean it really good. Gonna try and salvage anything I can, but if the carpet is beyond repair it will have to go.

My 83 is a vert, so my interior is pretty much shot.

Ya my carpet looks like a construction worker drove it for 10 years without any floor mats.

Carpet is cheap. CJ Pony Parts will probably be the cheapest place to buy anything you need. Late Model Restoration is another place.

Anyone know if I can powerwash the engine cavity? There's still a few things in there but its really muddy and I would like to powerwash the entire thing.

Remove the battery and cover the coil and carburetor up good, won't be a problem.

And distributor

Anyone have any ideas on where to start looking for an engine, gonna get another 5.0 302 for it. Right now I was looking into the 5.0 coyote on AM that produces just over 400hp.

Dion11197 10-02-2013 06:07 AM

If I had the money, I would highly consider a coyote swap.

Want kind of suspension would I need to support the 5.0 coyote

You can, but honestly of they're in decent shape, I would repair and re paint.

Dion11197 10-02-2013 09:05 PM

For the rear suspension, torque box supports, some good upper and lower control arms, good springs and shocks. Front, good springs and struts to match the rear. The coyotes makes good power and really good with some bolt ons, you'll need good suspension to get the power to the ground. The torque boxes are a weak point on the foxes, so make sure you reinforce those.

I just pulled my 5.0 out of my 88gt but the block might not be salvageable the place whet the distributor sits inside the block sheared part of the outside in to the block. The internals look fine but just not sure
