Alright, so after a brief 6 month stint in Chevy land I'm back into a mustang. I didn't feel comfortable with the payment I had on my vette, so I reduced a good chunk of debt and picked this up. It's a 2001 Bullitt #4009 with 41k on the clock. I've been trying to find out as much as I can on it but haven't gotten to tear into it too much yet. From what I can tell it has:
-Vortech V2 supercharger, non-intercooled
-38lb injectors (I believe Lucas brand, part #D1163AA)
-FRPP shorty headers
-BBK Catted h-pipe
-Bassani catback
-Steeda Tri-ax
-Aluminum driveshaft
-3.73s or 4.10s (unsure on that still)
-MGW billet interior package
-Auto meter boost and fuel pressure gauges

I haven't looked into what fuel pump it has yet, nor have I checked the pulley size, but it looks to be boosting 6-7lbs. The body is in fair condition. But it looks like the hood and trunk have been used as shelves before and there is one ding on the drivers rear quarter. My plans for it right now are to pick up an intercooler kit and a new pulley and to turn up the boost to 9psi. Eventually it will get a drop and some 18" Bullitts, but I'm not going as low as my previous GT was.

All I can say is that it's good to be back in a Mustang again. And yes, chappy cell phone pics are all you're gonna get right now.

Already gone the FR500s route on my old gt. I don't plan on deviating too much on this car so some 18" anthracite Bullitts will do for me.

This is even better than I anticipated!
Looks like a nice find!
:)
An intercooler and more boost sounds like a good idea.
Did you get the stock intake for it, when you bought it?

Mile high JDF 11-15-2015 02:26 AM

Thanks guys!

Stray, I figured you would get a kick out of this one. Its a totally different ride compared to the vette. Unfortunately I didn't even get a handheld tuner with the car so I'm kind of SOL on those. I did find an interesting thread on IMBOC. Apparently the previous owner thought it could hang with a C5Z in the twistys and straights http://www.imboc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96244

Either way, the tob is whining and the clutch cable feels "gritty" when I push it in, so a new clutch kit, cable, serpentine belt, pulley (have to find my current size first), intercooler kit, and retune are all on the list for the next year.. assuming I can stop buying tools.

Very Nice!
Good Luck with the build!

Haha thanks, I do love the look of the gauge cluster.

So I've barely had it two days and already started fixing minor things. Apparently the previous owner did not know that the TR3650 transfer does not use shift stops on the base of the shifter.

UnrealSVT 11-15-2015 06:17 PM

Good thing you caught it...sucks you have to fix and clean in up tho

The shift stops bad for it? Seems like to me they would be reassurance on not over shifting/ throwing it less likely bend a shift rod or fork as long as they adjusted right

No they're not bad at all...just a pain to adjust at times. I know they were on my STEEDA triax

sonicpony03 11-15-2015 07:38 PM

Welcome back man! Glad to see you're back in a stang. Congrats on the Bullitt!

I'm gonna have to tell a friend of mine to sub to your thread. He is considering going centri style on his DHG Bullitt.

Oh, you're gonna have to update that sig again lol.

Mile high JDF 11-15-2015 08:39 PM

Honestly, I enjoy it. I haven't been this excited about a car purchase in a while and I've been enjoying finding things out about it. The repairs don't bother me because at the end of the day I didn't have to shell out the money for the mod. I'm a mechanic so it's easy enough for me to fix whatever wrong, and usually improve on it.

The way I see it is the previous owner spent $10k+ on all the mods, so a couple hundred dollars to put everything to my liking is a small price to pay.

The 3650 has internal stops. The only thing the shifter stops might do is damage if they are not adjusted right. I have zero idea why manufacturers put them on 3650 shifters.

They are a set once and forget it thing if you have a trans that needs them... And the 3650 does not.

Ditto what Scotty said. I probably would have left them, but the previous owner left them very close to those shift handle when in 3rd and 4th.

Alright time for the supercharger noob questions. What would a good intercooler be for this car? I saw that AM has some Mishimoto universal cores but I know I've heard other kits recommended before.

How do I go about finding the correct length serpentine belt? Would that be something to buy directly from Vortech?

I'm hoping to start piecing together an intercooler kit along with replacing the serpentine belt and installing a wide band O2 sensor in the next few weeks, so any help is greatly appreciated.

natestang07 11-16-2015 04:36 PM

Installing one? As in the previous owner didn't have one on there,

Correct. I have a fuel pressure gauge and a vacuum/boost gauge.

Haha I'm sure he'd have a heart attack if he knew that this blower has been on since at least 2002 with no AFR gauge. :D

Soccerluvr4 11-16-2015 05:50 PM

Might be a good idea to get the blower sent off and rebuilt.

Mile high JDF 11-16-2015 05:54 PM

I've considered it, but I want to find out more about it before I do that. It could have very well been rebuilt before.

Mile high JDF 11-16-2015 10:22 PM

Alright an AEM wideband and a factory clutch cable have been ordered

scottydsntknow 11-17-2015 05:29 AM

For the intercooler I got the CX Racing setup. Its actually pretty damn nice. Still in a box in my garage like most of my parts... and my sanity lol. Its been REALLY hard to find time to work on the car and then I got sidetracked on upgrading my gaming PC for the Fallout4 release among other things.

Anyway, the CX Racing intercooler will steal about 3lbs of boost away from whatever the blower is making but with a S trim (or Novi in my case) that is not exactly a problem with the stock internals.

The piping is good on the kit, the welds are good, it comes with a BOV and a new oil cooler/relocation hoses and the clamps and couplers are high quality too. One thing I will say is that the BOV is not in a great location for a blow-thru setup which is what I am going with. That is another thing, every single last tuner I have talked to has said the same thing. "Get a slot MAF and go blow thru". Easier to tune, less tubing to worry about and super accurate. You just need to put the MAF in the middle of the straight shot of intake pipe that goes to the TB and the BOV needs to be moved to BEFORE the intercooler.

Trying to think what else since we are dealing with very similar cars here and I already got pretty much all of my stuff...

Not sure how you feel about doing the cams but I am going to be putting in CMS 2.5 blower cams even with the stock bottom end. Better powerband, takes way less boost to make the 425-450 number I am looking at which is very good when talking about stock internals and it'll make the 2V sound godlike. Roll up to a stoplight and watch ppl look around confused because "where is the muscle car?" lol.

Clutch should probably be done too, the early run 3650s are not exactly known for reliability either so there is something to look at too. Definitely do a full fluid change with Synchromesh. After that its just the basic stuff. Getting the rear suspension sorted is always a biggie on the 05-down cars.

Lol! I got a good laugh out of this one. I'm in the same situation my man...I have a pile of parts for my 2000 GT on my kitchen counter and on the floor in my room. Just ordered a heat exchanger and SS "cobra" bumper letters for my 04 cobra too. They will probably end up in my closet until springtime hahaha! Gotta love feeding that gear head habit with no time to breathe from working too much! Lol

UnrealSVT 11-17-2015 05:41 AM

CMS cams seem to be a favorite with blower applications. But don't forget about the hi-tech stage 2s! I have a set of their NA cams. Installation was a breeze and I get nothing but compliments on the sound. [emoji41]
