5th Gear Issue

I own a 2001 V6 stang and have an issue with the 5th gear. Sometimes when im shifting into 5th gear at a high RPM (4000-4500 rpm) it grinds. Is there a way to fix this?

do u have a short throw shifter? if so it might be because of the leverage that you need to use to get it into gear. how many miles are on your car/transmission. if there is a lot it might the syncros in the tranny or it might just need a tranny flush. there are a few things that might be wrong. give som more details to narrow it down.

how fast are you going? Is this on the street or strip. In 4th at 4500, you're close to if not over 100mph depending on gears. But it could be you needing to hold the clutch in longer, or your syncros for the gear are going bad. That's an odd gear to go bad though. You must slam in to 5th alot.

It's s 2001 mustang v6 with 47xxx miles . I dont slam in into 5th gear alot i just drive it but i do get up on it every once and awhile. I installed a shorter shifter lever but its not a actual short shifter, its more so one of those smaller bolt on shiter arms. It doesnt happen to often just every once awhile.

I don't know what to tell ya. Can you feel if there any slack in your clutch pedal?

Remove transmission (takes about 1 hour) and take it to a transmission shop.

Had the same problem, and it was just a worn syncro. Cost me $50 for repair since I did all the heavy work.

For 5th gear problems, they only have to remove the tailshaft = cheaper repair.
