Misfire Alert

I have a 96 cobra 4.6 DOHC engine and i got an error reading P0307 - cylindar 7 misfire, is this an alert that means i should change my plugs and wire or what? any suggestions would be great

Check the plug first, then the wire, if neither of those fix the misfire then you might have a mechanical problem like a burnt valve or something.

The computer is very sensitive in that respect, if the crank position sensor or trigger wheel have a problem then it can trigger a false misfire. Does the car run fine? Have you installed UD pulleys on the car? if the balancer is not tightened down enough then it can trigger false misfires.

it does run fine, no UD pulleys, i cleared it with my diagnostic checker and it hasnt come back so im guessing it wasnt anything. any other ideas they would be great i appreciate it.

If the car runs fine and it doesn't come back then I would not worry about it.

I pulled one off my #4 cylinder....did the cheapest first and swapped out the plugs and it went away. I have heard folks say that if you get a persistant msifire light it is usually a coil pack.

i got a missfire when my harmonic balancer scooted out a bit, check the TQ on that bolt (look in manual to find exact spec, its a good bit) its a free thing to check.
