Has anyone installed a MSD RPM Activated window switch?
How the heck do you install it on a Distributorless ignition?
Instructions say something like, "Hook yellow wire into coil..." and i stopped right there, theres no coil wire on my car, bah!

Called MSD, they said I need a Dis-Tach adapter.
Hooks into the Positive wire that goes into the Coil pack, then has an output wire to the RPM Switch.
Theres nothing to hook into a "Tach Wire" - its all electronic, and the switch needs a signal to detect the RPMs, so hooking it to the Tach wouldnt really work.

i never had one, but everyone i talked to and from everything i read said that for some reason a window switch could not be functional on our cars because of the way the tach is set up.
its the same reasoning behind needing to get an adapter to put a new tach in... like a larger one or a shift light. it doesnt have a wire in the back of it controlling it

You also have a 98 though. Maybe they changed it all in the 99+ ?
I know the 99+ are all distributorless ignition systems. The tach, speedo, firing order, etc., are all controlled by the Computer. Thats why in the pre 99s you get a simple little plastic gear to adjust the speedo if you got a 3.73 rear end (or whatever size), and in 99+ you need a speedcal or a chip(diablo, etc) - all electronic. The gauges all work on the amount of voltage sent to them, not a RPM reading.
Since it is a distributorless Ignition, the computer sends the pulse to "fire" through a positive signal wire into the Coil Pack, which has multiple ground wires. The MSD Dis-Tach taps into that Positive wire and gets a true, exact RPM reading. That then connects to the Window Switch, then on to the Relay, Master Switch, WOT Switch, and Solenoids... you get the idea.
However, Id still be interested to see how your setup works, because If I can get away with not having to spend another 50-75 bucks on this thing, then so be it.
Pic doesnt show wires, but theres a Ground, a Posi In, Posi Out, and Signal wire out (that goes to the window switch)

pre99s have a distributorless system too. they never put distributers in the SN95 models.
the reason we have a speedogear is not all the electronics y'all do, but they had to make adjustments when they went returnless fuel system, so they put the electronic control on the speedo. youre forgetting the speedo gear is inside the tranny. it is controlled and monitered electronically too. it sends the signal to the computer which then controls the speedo.

Sheesh. On 94-98 you can tap the tach wire coming out of the ecu or going into the cluster, no adapater or modified window switch is necessary. For 99+ you need a tach adapter, I sell them and so do a bunch of other places.
For 94-98 see the www.supersixmotorsports.com site for instructions, you would hook it up like a tachometer.

justin00stang,
Thanks for the offer, but used my discount at summit and got the MSD part for $40 shipped. 65 shipped is a good price though for others who might be interested.
