I wondering what company makes the best rear gear for a 03 V6 mustang, but is also not too expensive.

you could go with richmond gears for about $160 or straight from ford racing for around $175. a t-lok would be a good investment as well. Auburn makes a nice one and ford racing has one for about $200.

if i get 4.10. I will be able to beat the guy on the line for a second, but then he would blow me away and 4.10's would hurt my gas mileage. This is why i want 3.73

I've got 4.10's from Motive Gear. Found them on eBay for $115 new.
They work perfect, no whinning, or setup problems. Installation cost me $100

I have had 3.73's for two years.

I've run 4.10's in the past. They are ok.
I've run 2.26, 2.45, 2.76. 2.94, 3.23, 3.55 and the 4.10's over the years in various cars. My favorite is the 2.94's. Just make some torque and you are good.

They guy works for the local ford dealer in the service department, so he gets to borrow all the high speed tools and such to set it up. Took about 1.5 hours for the whole thing.

oem ford parts are the only way to go on a rear end that wont see alot of power. The oem Ford gears arnt the problem its the tlock diff.. the spider gears are very weak 99.909090% of the time the tlok breaks far before the gears this failure of flying parts will take the gears after the fact.
www.speedconcepts.net buy a complete 8.8 if you have a pre 99 and be done with it for 725 vs 600~ or more to build the 7.5
