I have a 2000 GT, mostly stock with a few bolt on's (listed in my sig) and my clutch feels as if it's losing grip on take-off and a friend who was driving behind me last night told me he smelled clutch when I romped on it from a roll. So, it's clutch shopping time... A friend had recommended the King Cobra as he ran one his 350whp 97 GT with no problems but I have read some reviews on other boards about the King Cobra and some people say it's crappy, the seating period is too long, it chatters, they slip too easily, and the most common "just get a Centerforce" I drove a friends 650whp Terminator with a RAM clutch and I liked the way it felt but he says he hates it.
So to my question.. King Cobra - Yea or Nay? and maybe some opinions on the best clutch-for-the-buck for street use? Centerforce? Spec? Ram?
And stiffness isn't an issue per-se, as my Trans Am has a Spec stage 3 I'm pretty used to it..

Nothing wrong with king cobra. I would recommend a Spec stage 2. They are a bit cheaper and just as good.

well i'm seeing the Spec stage 2's around $300ish i can pick up the king cobra kit from UPR with their adjuster/quadrant/cable for $229 OR i can pick up the RAM HDX for $184 (good to 450HP) from american muscle. I've spent the day reading user reviews on multiple message boards and a lot of people seem to like the RAM where the king cobra is about 50/50. Like i said i have a friend with an 04 Cobra running a RAM Powergrip (550HP rating) put down 820whp on a race tune/race fuel. (650whp with moderate tune/pump gas) and it held fine which is pretty impressive..
So i think i've about sold myself on the RAM...

for how hard the clutch petal is to push in the clutch doesnt hold nearly as much hp/tq as you would hope for. Thats just what ive heard. I have felt one and it is very stiff.

the stiffer the clutch the less play you have so it becomes on/off no slipping. Slipping is what allows you to get off the line faster if your tires start to break loose. If you have slicks and traction is not a problem thats fine though.
