I'm wanting to install a new exhaust system (headers to tailpipes) and one thing keeps confusing me. What does the car sound like without the cats? I've been checking out MAC's off-road H-Pipe which seems like a simpler install, but then I read in here that without the cats, a V6 gets a bit high pitched at higher rpms. Please help me out, I'm not gonna make a purchase until I figure this thing out. Oh, and I'm pretty sure "Off Road" means "Not Emissions Legal," right?

I haven't deleted cats but I have run without mufflers when I was switching from my dynomax to flowmasters. It sounded like a truck on start up. Even back then it was too loud for me.
search on youtube and i'm sure you'll find some clips.

I'm thinking about getting Pypes true dual converter back exhaust, they come with cats and seem easier to install...but they aren't the cheapest things out there. Anybody know of any other brands offering the same all-in-one package for a little less?

I ran my v6 without cats....and would not recommend you doing the same. At least get high flow cats.

v6's do not sound good with no cats, keep it mellow toned, not super free flowing/loud as they may sound good idling but thats all that sounds good~ above 2k rpms = bumble bee

My 98 has a o/r x pipe and flowmaster 40's and it sounds good(for a v6) but like SpectorV said above 2,000 rpm it sounds like a bumble bee so I really dont go above 2,000 rpm

it wont give you any power to replace the cats, just do a catback and save the money as a high flow cat is rather expensive.
