then it should open as soon as you floor it. You dont really want it to open before that, but if the linkage isnt opening it all the way at wot then you should adjust it.

I think its opening way earlier than that b/c I am getting shitty gas mileage....but it is also running rich. I will mess with it today when she comes back from the shop.

yeah, running rich will kill your mileage. you can dial that in though with the screws. . well you know how to do that. If it opens too early it can also run rich. Where do you have the timing set?

I timed it by ear (the timing mark on my block is missing AND our timing light is busted). But it is pretty damn near perfect (10 BTDC)

yeah, 10d advance sounds pretty good. you might even try bumping it up a little more, just to see if it helps. im talking about 1 or 2 degrees tho.
as far as gas milage goes though. . you gotta remember that thing is as heavy as hell, so no matter what, if you go fast gas milage is gunna suck.

They are actually extremely light, like 2600-2700 lbs. Like a civic w/ a v8 and RWD

Get a holley Carb, but until then, get a good Carb man to adjust the fuel air screws on that thing, then don't touch them man!

Oh, and on the secondaries coming in with progressive linkage, yes they should come in right about or right before WOT, you should actually be able to feel like a click in the throttle when they click in.

Excuse me????? What Mopar man told you that?? It is even questionable among mopar people whether Carter is any good as a Carb, a lot of Chrysler people ran Holley as did Chevy people, but Holley has always been a standard among Ford people for Carbs, even the Autolite (Ford) carbs were just a poor copy of a Holley man! They Holley dual line double pump 600-750 cfm is THE carb for a small block ford, there is no question, ask anyone who knows carbed Fords.

you arent gonna make TONS of horsepower difference in different brands of carbs, so its no big deal. besides, its period correct.

Period correct? Yeah, maybe on a Roadrunner, or a Barracuda, just not on a Mustang or any Ford product, its totally out of place there, but there have always been people who insisted on putting things where they didn't belong, lol. No, you won't make a ton of horsepower difference, you might get it to run better though.

2bbl carb.....manual linkage......opens at same time.......adjust fuel air mixture to slightly lean........when you jump on it the accelerator pump(operated by vacume) shoots some extra in to the carbs so you don't starve your engine. If you go to a 4bbl then you have to cam it and fuck with the valves and fuel delivery system...but you can get a few more ponies.....like i did on my camero in the 70's. went from 250 hp to 375 hp.
