you can hear it when turning one direction to the other or when pushing brake, right before stops, also tire is wearing on the outside. what do you guys think is making this noise?

Let's see Hayne's Manual describes Misc. Noise in the steering:
 |
 |
 |
Quote:
1) Improper tire pressure (also falls for the outside tire wear).
2) Insufficiently lubricated balljoint or steering linkage
3) Loose or worn steering, steering linkage or suspension components
4) Defective shock absorber
5) Defective wheel bearing
6) Worn or damaged suspension bushings
8) Loose wheel nuts
|
 |
 |
 |
A few others which just apply to the rear axle
Outside tire wear:
Sorry I don't know exactly what it can be but that list can be quickly narrowed down to get a few ideas of where to check.
Hope it helps somewhat

sounds like a wheel bering, grab the tire and pull it in and out and see how much play is in it.

$1,049.52 what the hell, power steering pump is leaking so its not lubing the rack and pinion assembly properly, they want to replace both and flush the system, that sure is alot of money that i dont have right now, i can handle changing the pump, not sure about the rack and pinion

try to narrow down the sound by getting someone to help, open the hood and wiggle thestrut shaft or watch it as the noise happens see if it pops or moves

im having the same problem with my car yet it doesnt do it all the time. i usually only hear it when parking or coming to a stop. the noise didnt occur till after i lowered my car and out caster camber plates on it though. after the install im positive everything was tightened back up and nothing appears to be wrong. im hoping mine wont be expensive either.

I doubt you need both the rack and pump. I would start by replacing the leaky pump. If the problem continues then look further into the Rack assembly.

It probably not even the pump. It probably just a hose at the pump.

In my 01 v6 i had a popping when i hit bumps. It was the sway bar end link, it had broken and the broken pieces were hitting each other during bumps. Just something i thought you might want to check.

Maybe the strut mount. The ball joints. The reason i say that is my car does the same thing and neither the pump nor the rack leak.

Sorry, I should have made something clear also previously. The popping noise was probably not coming from the PUMP as you have found. I recommended the Pump due to the leak.
The pop noise can be a random amount of things. What you need to tell the shop is that if you allow them to replace the struts then they must guarantee the noise will stop and not return (unless its another part later).
I recommend that you go back with Bilsteins HD (same as 03/04 Cobra) if you want the best. If not pick up some Mach 1 struts. They are great struts.

Could be a strut.. however, something else to check..
When I was a ford tech, we had a COMMON problem with the GTs - the steering rack mount - namely the sleeve that covers the exposed areas of the bolt that goes through the frame tended to creak, our solution was to remove the bolt on the affected side, remove the sleeve, apply some dielectric grease to the ends of the sleeve, reinstall everything then retorque the bolts to spec

changed the pump, changed the struts and shocks to monroe sensatracs, changed the hub & bearing assembly, still popping, so i go to another shop this morning and 15 minutes later my car is fixed, so what was it? subframe bolts, tighten all the bolts with a impact wrench and that was it, no sound at all, on top of that the man didnt even charge me, i feel so much better now that my car is fixed, whoo whoo i will be buying a impact wrench, thanks guys
