I'm looking to buy a 2010 Mustang, probably a GT premium. The base price is $30,995 (MT of course), and im not looking for a 2,000 dollar nav or glass roof or anything, just the car. Seems like good bang for the buck, but how much should I really pay? I've bought new cars in the past, but never American. Anyone have experience with buying a new stang?

there will be a hype when any new body style of a popular car comes out. You may have to wait a bit OR get in early with a dealer and make a deal on one they order. When you order a car the dealer has no real out of pocket expense. It comes in and goes to you, no lot time.
I ordered a mustang and got it for invoice. I personally would try for invoice, it is possible if they are not super super popular or ford releases enough and doesnt keep them rare at first.
they will depreciate fast, slower the first year being new but still quick so dont pay to much and wait till the right time. they may have rebates and such that will come out on them after the first wave hit, plus your tax on the car is now tax deductable.
My friend picked up an 08 gt the march before last where the sticker was 30k he got it for 24k due to rebate and the dealer taking less.
The economy being down will help you, the best time to buy is at the end of the month when they are meeting their quota.

I will check into that deductible, and I never thought about the end of the month, makes sense. Now that I think about it, it really is no sweat for them. From what i understand, they buy the car for invoce, and then get kickback's from Ford for every car they sell.
As far as the timing, I was thinking the same thing. They always make changes second year, and now there is talk of a 4.6 turbo eco motor. Anything turbo and direct injected scares me, higher repair costs, but I don't know the pro's and con's yet.
Maybe I will wait a little longer. I'm not in a dire rush, and im prepared to walk away from a bossy dealership. I will definately order the car. I want a Premium GT gray, black stripe, saddle leather, and maybe some louvers.
I'm just getting everything in order, and preparing for the purchase.
Thanks, you've been really helpfull.

I really think the 2011 GT will get the 5.0L engine and a HUGE boost in hp/tq so... that might be a reason to save up and wait till 2011
do get a mustang, the following and events make it so much better than nearly any other car out there

So I visited the dealership today, and they were totaly unaware of everything 2010. I walked in knowing 98% more than they did. It was sad really, they thought the msrp was $36,500 lol. I guess one benifit was I got to tear it up in a 2008 bullitt edition which was pretty sweet.
At this point i could get one, but im looking at about $525 a month with $2,000 down. It would take about four weeks to arive. Anyone know about the destination charge? It's $850 bucks, donno if that can be nogotiated.

What bad though is the little invoice price sheet they show you in most cases have "tweaked" numbers... I dealt with this and the Xplan when I was looking at F150s.
If nobody wants to work with you then walk away. You will find the car you like and then you will buy it!

With the economy the way it is and a long way from recovery, if the dealer doesn;t want to give you a good deal, then go to one that will. Houston's market is great for deals, and for me it's only 3 hours away. Generally the larger the dealer, the better the deal, since they can afford to make less per car since their volume is rediculous.

$525 a month with $2000.00 down? That's too much. My advice is that you wait until next summer to buy one. At that time they will have lots of incentives and the dealer will be willing to come off of the MSRP. My 2009 Mustang GT MSRP'd for $30,665. I got almost $2000.00 taken off the top at the beginning of negotiations. Then I got another $1000.00 in rebates. Once negotiations were over I also got a 1.9% interest rate for 72 months through Ford Credit. I also got G.A.P insurance for the entire life of the loan.
If you wait for another year you will get a much better deal and will save $3000.00-$8000.00. Also, most dealers are going to charge a premium for the first few 2010's they get, which is usually about $3000.00 over MSRP in my area. If you must have one soon, shop around. Don't pay an extra $800.00 for a "destination charge". It's non-refundable, so if you decide you don't want the car once it arrives you're shit out of luck.
Remember, the price is ALWAYS negotiable. They will almost always cut $1,700-$2,500 off the MSRP. Push them for a lower price until they refuse to go any lower. They may act annoyed, but it's a show. Don't fall for it. Even if you get to the price range you want keep pushing for a lower price. Never tell them the payment you can afford. That's one of the worst things you can do. Like I said, push for a lower price as many times as you can, and then push even more. You'll be surprised at how much they are willing to work with you. If they will not negotiate, walk out. Find someone who will. Also, make sure you stay in control of the deal. If the salesman (or woman) takes control you will get screwed. You have to be aggressive.
I almost forgot the most important thing. DO NOT TELL THEM YOU HAVE A DOWN PAYMENT UNTIL NEGOTIATIONS ARE COMPLETELY OVER. They will use your down payment against you. I kept my down payment a secret with the car I just purchased. It kind of pissed them off, but I lowered my payment even more by doing this. Keep that down payment on the down low and use it as your secret weapon when the time is right. You never know. You may be able to keep it.
Sorry for the lecturing. Just figured it'd be some good eye candy for anyone who's on the market for a new ride.

That's awesome. The dealers in my area will mark them up. They always do. Of course, there isn't a whole lot of competition in my area. We do have a deep recession in full swing, so maybe we won't see the mark up this time.
I'll be sure to check it out once the dealers in my area get a few 2010's. They don't have any as of yet.

I bought a 2010 coupe 6 acouple of weeks ago. I got it for under 25K and it was stickered 27135. It had the pony package and auto. The dealer really wanted my business here in Dallas. A dealer I saw the week before was trying to sell me a left over new 2009 and they really didn't want my business. It pays to look around.
