4.2L, High Compression compared to Supercharger.
I was thinking about rebuilding to a 4.2 with high compression pistons, around 10:1 or 10.5:1. How will this compare to just adding a Blower without a rebuild? Cost wise I think it should be close to the same, about $5,000?

just putting a blower on will get you around 300rwhp if an auto a little less
a built 4.2 will get around the same probably~ but room to grow with good internals with a blower on top of it

There's definite pros and cons to each, I know that the rebuild of a 4.0 to a 4.3 with all forged internals and a big cam will get about 285 HP at the crank, however, this makes the block capable of about 550 HP if you decide to supercharge it later. All the parts are about $3500 plus installation.
The cons here are that your mileage will definitely go down whereas a supercharger will maintain your stock mileage under normal driving (if you can keep your foot from flooring it

If you build a forged 4.3L (4.2 bored .030) properly, then you should have no issues hitting 650-700hp on F/I. Although for that kind of power, you;re gonna spend more on the engine and turbos than you did on the car.
You can slap an Eaton on your car for $2800 + boost gauge, programmer, and dyno time and have 300hp as well.

One great thing about the ford blocks though is that they are strong as hell. Take Justin at Velocity Mustang's. He made ridiculous power on an all stock motor. I think it was 599 to the wheels! Obvioulsy he had a radical combination, however he used all stock internals and a stock top end. I agree that building up the bottom end would be wise, however just know that if you want some quick power and don't want the hassel of rebuilding the motor at this time, supercharge it as it will be safe at low-mid boost levels for daily driving. You can always rebuild it later and then just throw your supercharger back on and have the best of both worlds.

If the GT-R can safely squeeze 480 hp out of a 3.8 liter v6 then we're all in damn good shape, hah

yup, I don't know what the max is on it but I know there's a 5.0 and a 5.2 out there for it. It can probably go higher though, there's a stroker kit for the 4.7 magnum I had in my dakota sport that would take it to 5.5.

well a cam swap starts at a grand for installation and goes up of they need new rods and springs and all that, I imagine the stroker kit is more complicated than that...
There's a stroker kit to get the 4.0 block to a 4.2 using entirely ford parts from a truck engine, not sure if they have a setup like that for the GT though.
I also recently found out that the cast iron block in the 4.0 is much stronger than the aluminum one in the GT, so with all forget internals ($2500 bucks for everything including a big cam and stroker kit) you can handle way more boost than the v8 block can. YAY!

OK there's a HUGE write up on this.
You basically take an 01+ block since they're the strongest, slap a 4.2 crank in it, 351/408 rods, bore it .030 over, use offset pistons and an 01+ oil pan. The rotating assembly alone can be had for less than $2k. Boring it .030 and slapping a 4.2 crank will give you a 4.3
There are some other things involved of course, but those are the biggest things.

The warranty is voided if you do ANYTHING to the car, including unplugging the pcm or running the car on a dyno for any reason other than emissions testing

Yeah I googled this the other day, that car as a freaking lemon AND they screw you on the warranty...
1) running the car on a drag strip VOIDS THE WARRANTY!? WHAT THE HELL!
2) modding the computer (dynoing, tuning, ANYTHING) VOIDS THE WARRANTY!
3) TURNING OFF LAUNCH ASSIST THAT HAS A FREAKING BUTTON ON THE DASH FOR IT, VOIDS THE WARRANTY!?!?!?
worst car in the history of man kind. Well, it's bad ass for the first seek, but then it snaps the transmission in half, which isn't covered under warranty.
