(unless you don'y believe in god, then just do whatever) Yesterday morning two trains collided in Graniteville, SC (about 20 minutes away from me). One of the trains spilled out atleast 3 different chemicals, the most hazardous of which being chlorine gas. If I remember Chemistry, Chlorine gas turns into hydrochloric acid in your lungs when you inhale it. 20 people are dead and over 200 have been treated with respitory problems - 40 of them in critical condition. The chlorine gas is still leaking from the train because no one can get close enough to stop the leak yet. A crew is being assembled to plug the leak but they are estimating it will take about 30 hours to plug it once they start working.

Yeah, depending on wind and terrain a tanker load of Chlorine can kill just about everyone for 20 miles upwind.
ERT leader class pointed out that nice fact, we get tankers of Chlorine here thru Austin (where I work) every week.

Ya this sucks, and I just happen to be upwind from it. But lucky I'm like 35 miles up, wind, so it would be diluted enough for me not to notice I'm dying.

The terrorists aren't too smart.
There is some security in these transports, but not enough if you ask me.

was it union pacific?
union pacific had several derailments recently here in san antonio. one of them killed a couple people when chlorine gas leaked out. and more people were killed in the other derailments.
and then union pacific refused to shut down the railroad for safety inspections and there were 2 more derailments - and they still refused to shut down the railroad for even one day after that.
