Hello Everyone!!

Newby here....great community you have!!

I've been considering a flash tuner, Diablo Predator seems to be the popular one, but I saw this at RPMoutlet... http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv6rockers.htm
A google search for Scout by Sniper Inc. came up empty....just more links back to RMPoutlet. The listing there says "Coming Soon". I was wondering if anyone has heard of this PC interface. If it does what I think it does, it should be cheaper than a hand-held and maybe even more flexible options-wise. I'm not looking to be a "beta-tester" when it comes to my pretty pony's brain, so I'm more than a touch apprehensive even tho I trust the merchandise that RPMoutlet carries.

Any helpful thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

from what i have heard rpmoutlet isnt the best of companies to deal with, but about hte product i havent heard anything on it. yet atleast

....thanks Scott....I haven't purchased from RPMoutlet but they seem to stock quality parts albeit at rich-man prices.

there was a thread somewhere around here saying rpm outlet has really bad customer service , ill keep my eyes and ears open on Sniper parts, ive seen advertisments in magazines but thats it right now, ill keep you posted

I've seen the advertisements on the Sniper products. Haven't heard much about it.

Contact Justin @ http://www.velocitymustangperformance.com he can set you up with a sct tuner package which is a name that you can trust

SCT is a very respectable busines with plenty of experience on V6 and V8 mustangs

The problem with sniper is it sounds too good to be true. As of the SEMA show (about a month ago) they had no hardware and no estimated release date.

I have been looking at either the SCT Extreme Flash Tuner or the newer Xcalibrator also by SCT. I liked the idea of hooking the Xcalibrator up to my laptop which is why the this Scout / Sniper Inc. interface caught my eye. It seems to me that any decent laptop with quality software should be able to monitor and send changes through the flash interface connected to the OBD-II port. As I understand it, Xcalibrator is preprogrammed from the dealer but can be tweeked with SCT's Quicktune 2005 software in this way. Diablosport's Predator is also a consideration. If anyone can comment from experience with these flash tuners I'd appreciate it. For now I'll keep checking around for info about the Scout.

Basically the SCT X-Cal is the replacement for the SCT MicroTuner. Diablo doesnt have control over alot of the parameters of the EEC while SCT has full control.

i wouldnt get into tunning unless i had quite a bit of mods... or a power adder else its not really worth it unless you can alter it later on as a tunner would allow you to.

There is not any other bolt on out there that will give you more power than a 91-93 octane SCT tune. So if you plan to stick with just bolt ons its a good move to make.

can you get a tunner that will allow you to alter it for any set up as far as for just bolt ons now then later on get it set up for a SC or what not with out alot of hassel and alot of money? if so that sounds like a good plan.

If there's one of those I'll almost look into getting it, a properly tuned chip helps out a ton. I have a friend here in town who got a chip and tune on a stock setup, no bolton's whatsoever and it helped it out a ton.

All the bolt ons out there don't require a tune change, UD pulley, duals, a *good* set of headers, a *good* cai, will all work with the same tune. If you buy the SCT x-calibrator and PC to x-cal cable you can make changes to things like gear ratio with the Extreme PC based software (free). If you get heads/cam/intake or a blower then the dealer can email you a new file. The blower definitely needs a new tune.

Justin....it's good to see you on several of these forums....that kind of personal service is excellent these days....looks like you've found a nice nitch and all I've seen is positive feedback about you and http://www.velocitymustangperformance.com

I purchased my V6 convertible last Summer. It's a beautiful car and a joy to drive (not bad in the Winter either although I drive it as little as I can stand). I have not made one modification to it yet but a CIA seems immenant. I reasoned that a well tuned motor and transmission would be critical to getting the most out of some bolt-ons. I bet an XCalibrator with the 91-93 tune, a good CIA and a performance exhaust would would make the pony jump! Also I had hoped a tuner would allow me to add pieces and parts over time and still afford me the best possible set-up for whatever combination of mods I happened to have at any given time. A CIA is pretty cheep but an exhaust might have to wait for a bit. In time I might even get enthusiastic enough to require a new tune.

XCalibrator has 3 tunes along with the stocker. If I was set-up with an 87-octane tune (just firm the shifts and turn off the rev limiter, etc) and a high-octane tune, what would be my best option for the third tune? Can I typically get a less expensive tuner (final cost) if I left one of the memory banks empty?

Also, will I get better performance out of a high-octane tune if I add some volts to the ignition and sweeten up the fuel mixture (software tweek)?

Most people only need a 87 and 91-93 octane program. The stock ignition is fine.

The Sniper prodects have been advertised in magazines for a long time, I remember seeing ads saying "coming soon" in MM&FF like 7 months ago. I saw that they have a Tuner and I think some other stuff but I forget. Haven't heard much about them though.

I think I'm gonna wait till it warms up before I start flashing my pony's "BIOS". XCalibrator will do what I want. This "Scout" software does sound pretty cool if it is capable of what Sniper Inc. is suggesting. We shall see....and then I'll decide.

I did find Sniper Inc.'s mailing address and phone number....no website tho

For now I'll continue to appreciate any and all feedback about Scout software or the Spartan handheld flasher. Why should I purchase stand-alone hardware when my laptop is perfectly capable of doing the job with a software program and a USB port??
