Okay, I've been doing some research and I have narrowed my possible choices of synthetic motor oil for my new GT to three.
Amsoil, Valvoline, or Penzoil Platinum. I am leaning toward Penzoil Platinum, but I'd like to hear some opinions from some fellow Mustang owners before I decide. I can get 5 quart jugs of both Valvoline and Penzoil Platinum at Wal-Mart for $20.00-$26.00, which is a great price. If you have something good to say about other brands (other than Mobile 1) please do so.
Thanks In Advance,
Jason

I have read very good things about Amsoil and know it is used every weekend by some Cup teams. I have used Penzoil for racing many years ago before there was synthetic and it was the best in my opinion. Valvoline did not lubricate the top end as good as Penzoil. I am glad to see Castrol oil is not in the running for your affection. But I must tell you that Mobil 1 is the best synthetic in my opinion, depending on your climate I would use 5W20, 5W30. You will get a lot of opinions here I hope this helps you.

+1 Thats the only oil I use and I've never had any issues, I like it a lot, but out of your choices I would go with amsoil, I've also heard great things about it.

amsoil or royal purple are probably the two best out there from all I have seen. I use mobil 1, works great so far.

So no one has used Penzoil Platinum? I have been seriously considering using it. But at the same time I hate conventional Penzoil. It's a bit of a dilemma I suppose.
The reason I am refraining from using Mobile One is because of both corporate and political reasons. I do not like the Exxon Mobile Corporation. It stems way back, well into the Bush era. When gasoline prices began to become inflated. I did lots of research and found lots of dirt on them. Did not like what I seen. I refuse to purchase gasoline from any of their stations or buy any of their products. I guess I have my own personal boycott going .

I have used Pennzoil platinum with success... but i'm not terribly attached. Quaker State has been getting more of my oil business lately.

I think I might give Penzoil Platinum a try. I'm not too sure yet though. My car now has about 850 miles on it. I've been driving the crap out of it.
I am going to change the oil at 1000 miles. I'm honestly looking forward to it. I've been itching to work on the car. I've already ordered an aftermarket part for it, I can't wait until I get to install it.

I've had great success with Valvoline, Kendall and Mobile One. I don't blaim anyone for boycotting Exxon. I also have had great success with Motorcraft. All of their oils are a semi-synthetic blend-comes in your crankcase-right from the factory..

you will find horror stories from every oil type... but you never know if its mechanical or oil related... sometimes people like to blame oil on new engines when they mess up and not them selves since they didn't do something right.

If you change you oil ever 3000K all major brands should be sufficient, including dino oil. But I would use synthetic just for peace of mind, “why eat hamburger when you can eat steak”, if you can afford it.

Everyone has their own opinion on oils. All I can say is I've used Royal Purple in my car for about a year now and it's still running strong. I went about 8K on one oil change and the oil still looked pretty clean, the oil inside the filter still looked purple.

anybody that uses Mobil supports Exxon (ExxonMobil). Exxon is basically the same as Mobil (NOT MOBIL 1)

Here we go this thread should be off and running
I would rather give my money to an American oil company, Exxon being the biggest in the U.S. Chevron and Conoco Phillips the other two big U.S. firms I don’t know much about there synthetic but I would buy Chevron’s oil before Pennzoil, just because it is an American product.

It can be a touchy subject with some people, so I won't go into any detail. I thinks it's best to keep politics out of this discussion. Lets just say I have my reasons .
Back to oil....I forgot Pennzoil got purchased by Royal Dutch/Shell. I still want to buy from an American company. I guess I'll just go with Valvoline. They're based in Kentucky, can't get much more American than that.

i've heard horible things from normal pennzoil which turns me away from any of their products, my dad used it all the time in his 79 ford 150 and had tons of engine problems. i've been using vavoline synthetic on my 96 protege with 214k on it and i can't complain. its only been in there for the last 10-20k miles (i really don't remember when i started using it) but with the valve noise it had before using it, it didn't make anything worse

your boycott on Exxon is about as weak as the Mexican boycott/riot on the pig Slaughter house in Mexico. Has no grounds of true evidence...
Details please

Pennzoil and Quaker state are the same company... i used Royal purple in my GT and my dads Shelby. we both found our oil to be very clean on a drain after 5k miles, even though its syn. i wouldnt go over 5500miles. Royal Purple makes Oil filters now from the looks of it i think they look better and am going to try it next time. Royal Purple Consumer Products

keep in mind the only filters on the market that have the drain back valve are ford and wix, if you use another you wont have this. Not sure on issues from this just FYI Ford recommends using a filter with one.

I was considering Royal Purple in my ride because it seems to be a favorite. My car says 5W50 recommended but I did not see that available on Royal Purple's web site. Does anyone know if they do make it.
